JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the NFS Manager, the NFS Coordinators is responsible for ensuring a high quality operation with smooth, efficient completion of the day-to-day activities of the Nutrition and Food Services Department (NFS). The Coordinator is responsible for the direct supervision of resident meal service, retail operations, and caterings. The Coordinator works cooperatively with the NFS Manager, Clinical Dietitians and other Food Service members to ensure that standards are consistently met or exceeded, quality service is provided and that changes are implemented and monitored. Other duties include procurement of food and supplies, inventory management, financial calculations, management of resident diets assistance in hiring, training and staff evaluations, scheduling and payroll functions. The Coordinator actively participates in Facility quality management programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

? Grade 12 Education

? Certificate in Food Service Supervision (or equivalent); a valid Winnipeg Food Handler's Certificate.

? Two to three years supervisory experience in a food service capacity; experience in the health care field an asset.

? Good mental and physical health, with a proven good attendance record ? A sound knowledge of therapeutic diets

? Must be competent in interpersonal communication and human resource management

? Training in WHMIS with a sound knowledge of food safety and sanitation concepts and food service techniques

? Proficiency in computer programs (ie.MS Word, Excel, Outlook)

? Demonstrated professional interpersonal skills and leadership ability

? Detail oriented, organized with excellent English written, verbal and comprehension skills

? Accountability for financial resources; and demonstrates a progressively forward

thinking attitude which embraces change

RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with the Manager responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the overall activities of the Nutrition and Food Services Department (resident, catering, and retail service) on a daily basis. Ensures that adequate levels of staffing are scheduled and that employees are trained appropriately for the positions they are working.

Participates in developing departmental standards of quality food production in order to provide residents, staff and customers with the best possible product within the approved budget and in accordance with the policies of the Home

Actively involved in promoting a team atmosphere in the entire department through various initiatives. Foremost, the Coordinator must lead by example

With direction from the clinical dietitian, speech language pathologist and nursing responsible for accurate resident diet capture into the computer, departmental and unit resident nutritional binders and meal assembly sheets

Responsible for defining and implementing facility and regional food service policies and procedures that meet or exceed standards set by Government authorities

Provides direction and immediate supervision to the Lead Hands, Cooks, Cooks Helpers, Dietary Aides and Clerks ensuring they are trained and properly supervised to ensure optimal work performance

Ensures delivery of food and service in a manner that meets the requirements of the Clinical dietitians, Health Guidelines, and the standards of the Home

Assists with interviewing, selecting and training of new staff. Coordinates and delivers staff education sessions as required.

Prepares and conducts employee appraisals in conjunction with other coordinators and the manager.

Completes bi-weekly timecard submissions to payroll.

Procures food and supplies from vendors and facility members as required, ensuring proper storage and stock rotation.

Coordinates staffing, food and supplies for catering events. Adjusts personal schedule accordingly for early or late evening events. Ensures accurate costings and recording of each.

Ensures that equipment is utilized properly and in good repair.

Ensures the department and unit kitchen areas are cleaned and sanitized appropriately and that security is maintained and that daily sign off is completed.

Participates in the development and implementation of Quality Improvement initiatives.

Participates in the preparation of reports as required by the manager.

Provides feedback in the preparation of the department operating budget. Helps monitor expenditures and recoveries in relation to the budget. Provides monthly statistics as necessary for the purpose of Continuous Quality Improvement, and helps to carry out any action plans associated with such.

Ensures quality and safety standards are maintained by providing regular feedback on a daily basis and completing daily rounds.

Providing prompt and constantly fair feedback to employees regarding performance and behaviors; maintaining up-to-date documentation of all related interactions.

Participates in various facility-based committees and teams on a regular basis and/or as requested.

Pay: $18.67-$33.04 per hour

Expected hours: 80 per week
