ONE FULL-TIME (40HRS) AND ONE PART TIME (16 HRS),


TERM POSITION ENDING MARCH 2026


(With the possibility of an extension)





Reporting to one of the Clinical Supervisors, the Newcomer Life Skills Worker will work with newcomer individuals and families in the Family Supports for Newcomers as well as the Community Settlement Program. Responsibilities will include life skills assessment, facilitate skills building in different topics and assistance with day to day living tasks to support increased independence and successful settlement and integration to Canada.


As a representative of Family Dynamics, the person in this position will adopt the mission, philosophy, and values of the agency in all aspects of their work. Clients are to be treated with dignity and respect and assured of confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities:





In collaboration with the Case Coordinators and Clinical Supervisors, the Newcomer Life Skills Worker will:


Conduct a life skills intake and assessment using an assessment tool that is developed Facilitate teaching clients how to do various tasks and learn skills needed for living in Canada Help clients connect to community programs and resources Check ins with individuals and families who have received life skills sessions before and provide a refresher as needed. Treat client families with dignity and respect, observing client rights and confidentiality practices



Caseload Management:
Plan and organize work schedule
Consult regularly with team members, supervisors and Program Managers Be accountable to the Program Managers for various reports and evaluation of services Follow all agency policies and procedures



Resource Development:


Gather and share information about resources in the community Participate in professional development and appropriate training



Team Participation:


Work cohesively with team members and Program Managers in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program Attend and participate in team meetings and case reviews/consults.



Key Qualifications:




Bachelor's degree in Human/Social Services field is required Demonstrated competence and experience working with vulnerable populations Two years of experience with direct client services or equivalent combination of experience and education will be in consideration Additional relevant language(s) is an asset

Exceptional cross cultural competence and experience working with newcomer families Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of resettlement issues and barriers to integration Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Knowledge of child development and family dynamics Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma and attachment Proactive teaching and psychosocial skill-building skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, situations, problems, challenges and opportunities Demonstrated ability to liaise and positively network with other professionals, agencies and systems Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team Ability to set and observe appropriate professional boundaries Efficient organizational and time management skills Strong written communication skills Knowledge of community resources Competent basic computer, internet and email skills
