Full-Time Term Ending March 31st, 2026


(With the possibility of an extension)

35 hours per week


Position Summary





The Newcomer Case Coordinator assists newcomer individuals and families with multiple barriers and complex needs to integrate and adapt to life in Canada using a wrap-around case management approach that includes: pro-active service coordination, referrals, advocacy, education, skills building and emotional support.


Key Duties and Responsibilities


Conduct client-centered assessment and service planning to identify goals and priorities; jointly determining the need for assistance in accessing and managing resources internally as well as through other agencies Provision of information about life in Canada, emotional support and guidance to help clients build on their strengths and enhance their coping skills Proactively assisting clients with understanding and navigating the various systems they are struggling to navigate independently Accessing, advocating, coordinating and following up with multiple systems on behalf of clients

Key Qualifications:




Degree in human services is required, Bachelor of Social Work preferred A minimum of two years of experience in direct client services, preferably in a service coordination and case management role Experience working with immigrants and refugees is required. Experience of navigating and working with different systems like Immigration, justice/legal, health/mental health, Family Services (CFS), Social Assistance (EIA), is required An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered*

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities




Sound knowledge about the case management model and its application with populations who have significant barriers Specialized knowledge in the area of attachment and trauma-informed approaches to supporting newcomer populations, especially those from refugee backgrounds Understanding about mental health, mental illness, addiction, and the support services needed for people going through a mental health crisis. Ability to go for home visits, accompanying and supporting clients at community appointments including the court, shelters, Immigration hearings, CFS, schools, EIA, etc. Comprehensive knowledge about the wide range of community resources Ability to work collaboratively within the team and with collateral organizations Active participation in Clinical Supervision, team meetings and relevant professional development activities Demonstration of cultural competency to work effectively and respectfully with people from different cultures and diverse backgrounds, including consideration of how social, historical contexts and imbalance of power have impacted people's experiences Ability to practice cultural humility; acknowledging oneself as a learner when understanding others' personal experiences, as well as demonstrating a commitment to lifelong learning and self-reflection Possess excellent time management skills, attention to detail and adherence to professional ethical standards Demonstrated ability to clinically manage high risk cases involving problem solving and crisis/risk assessment and intervention skills Ability to advocate effectively Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop rapport and ensure communication is understood across a variety of cultures and circumstances; ability to work collaboratively within a team Demonstrated ability with planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and realigning priorities Ability to speak a relevant language is considered an asset
