POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Neurosciences Department at The Moncton Hospital welcomes applications for a Neurologists to join the Neurology team in Moncton, NB.

The Neurosciences Department at The Moncton Hospital is the largest neurosciences department in New Brunswick, consisting of neurologists, neurosurgeons, physiatrists and neuro-interventional radiologists. As a critical care and trauma centre, The Moncton Hospital is a Maritime referral destination for acute and trauma cases, covering New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia, with a catchment population for the neurosciences department of almost 500,000. The department has affiliations with both the Sherbrooke Medical School (Universit\xc3\xa9 de Moncton) and Dalhousie Medical School (Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick), with opportunities to be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching as well as research.

The Moncton Hospital is a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility within Horizon Health Network. It is a major referral hospital which serves communities throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. Most major services and subspecialties are available: general surgery (including hepatobiliary), thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, interventional radiology, major orthopedics, neurosurgery and neuroradiology, ENT, urology, high risk obstetrics (approximately 1400 deliveries per year), gynecology and plastic surgery (including burns). The Moncton Hospital is a level 2 provincial referral trauma center. The intensive care unit has a 10 bed medical-surgery unit and 6 bed neurosurgical unit.

The Moncton Hospital offers excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research and has academic affiliation with Dalhousie University. Third year surgical residents from Dalhousie are involved regularly on service as well as PGY-1 and other elective students and residents. The hospital is one of the largest employers within metro Moncton, employing 3,000 staff and physicians.

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • On-call coverage in coordination with the other members of the department
JOB DUTIES:
A typical weekly schedule will include:
  • Neurology services
  • On-call coverage in coordination with other members of the department
  • Additional expertise or fellowship training in areas such as movement disorders, stroke, MS and behavioural neurology
  • Teaching residents and medical students
REMUNERATION:
Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a salaried model may be available. This is based on qualifications and experience. Salaried locums receive 10% in lieu of benefits. On call remuneration is fee for service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Members of the Neurology Division in the Department of Neurosciences at The Moncton Hospital are expected to have a completed FRCPC specialty certification. Any other level of certification can be considered on an individual basis by the members of the division and the Clinical Department Head. Applicants must also be eligible for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick.
  • Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
