Job Description

Position Summary



Reporting directly to the CAO, the Network Support Technician is responsible for network development and coordinating maintenance as well as troubleshooting computer issues and providing technical support and guidance to staff. This position will explain technical issues and present them in a meaningful and understandable way to non-technical personnel. The purpose of this position is to create and maintain well-functioning network systems that help the Municipality operate smoothly. This position ensures that IT support requests are managed effectively and responded to in a timely manner, either by completing requests themselves or raising them to the Municipalities current outsourced IT support vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Inventory

- With the assistance from the outsourced IT support, when applicable, this position will administer lifecycle management of all, but not limited to:

Telephones/Cell Phones Printers/Plotters/Photocopiers Computers/Tablets/Accessories Radio Network System Servers
This position will be aware of all software licenses, upgrades, annual updates and will coordinate various replacement and renewal timelines with employees and vendors. This will include but is not limited to maintaining the Municipalities procurement practices within the budget provided to the IT function.

Research & Evaluate

- Coordinate with Senior Management, research and evaluate new technologies to be used as enhancements or upgrades to the existing server, network and other applications or software and hardware equipment.

Vendor Maintenance

- Coordinate with various vendors to meet the needs of the Municipality regarding phone network, internet, procurement of hardware and security.

Policy and Procedures

- Create policies and procedures with the assistance of Senior Management regarding security, procurement and internal workflows.

Design and Install of Computer Networks

- Design and install computer networks that run as effectively as possible to best serve the Municipalities business goals and daily operations. This involves checking connections, cabling and testing devices are working as they should.

Troubleshoot System Failures

- Inspect system failures to identify problems and highlight any bottlenecks that could slow down the network. Ensure the network and infrastructure are as efficient as possible and fix any problems or bugs that have been identified.

Test Software

- Assist outsourced IT vendors to test software to configure it correctly, in addition to maintaining or repairing hardware and devices when issues arise. Tests and data backups are performed regularly throughout the year to ensure the system works efficiently at all times and to protect the Municipalities data.

Organized Upgrade Schedules

- Organize and plan regular system maintenance to ensure everything is running correctly. Evaluate the networks performance to see where it can be approved.

Online Communication

- Work with team members to develop and manage content for both website and social media accounts as well as maintain a cohesive design for the website, streamlining navigation and increasing online presence.

Provide Technical Guidance

- Aid employees with their computer and network usage problems, offering technical direction, instructions and advice to resolve issues. Provide support with basic requests such as changing printer toner, replacing cables, setting up projectors, moving computers, etc.

Job Requirements (minimum standards)



Must have minimum Grade 12, GED or equivalent training. Minimum 2 years experience with Computer Technology & Website Design. Strong foundation in computer hardware, software, project management and networking fundamentals. Ability to provide first-level technical support for hardware related issues, including laptops, desktops, printers and other peripherals. Experience with M365 Suite, MDGP and End User training. Ability to work effectively within a team environment, both taking direction from and supporting other colleagues. Able to work with minimum supervision. Able to attend Council meetings to address potential technical issues that may arise. Knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work. Willingness and ability to undertake training related to the duties of the position. Valid drivers' license and access to a vehicle.

Pay: From $29.08 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Monday to Friday Overtime
