Join our team! : Note: This position will be based out of Head Office in Calgary; or, the Acheson, Red Deer or Lethbridge Office. The Network Operations Technologist works in the Network Operations Center (NOC) and reports to the AltaLink Control Center (ACC) Real Time Manager. The Network Operations Technologist centrally manages AltaLink\xe2\x80\x99s network systems, which include portions of the corporate, telecom and operational networks. This position works Monday to Friday, with a 24 hour on-call shift rotation to support the 24/7/365 monitoring of AltaLink\'s network assets in accordance with North American Electrical Reliability Corporation (NERC) and other Industry Standards. Responsibilities:

  • Assesses on a 24/7/365 basis, the operation of AltaLink\'s network assets.
  • Provides network asset risk factor information and input to AltaLink\'s Control Centre (ACC) for overall power system risk, assessment and mitigation.
  • Ensures the coordination of work activities with the maintenance, planning, scheduling and field operation groups, overall network performance understanding, and assists in the delivery of network services to AltaLink.
  • Centrally manages and monitors the operations of AltaLink\xe2\x80\x99s Networks.
  • The primary contact for our Network Operations Centre (NOC) to ACC regarding telecommunications risk, return to service processes and significance of outage evaluation to the operations of the power transmission system.
  • The point of contact for service connectivity issues between head office, substations, and all other AltaLink facilities.
  • Provides technical support by conducting the diagnosis of level I and II network incidents and repair attempts.
  • Determines what network alarms are to become a network incident and triages / coordinates all network incidents.
  • Activates and coordinates the network incident process with all other AltaLink processes.
  • Analysis of network performance for internal and external client Service Level Agreements and to provide network health status reports.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma from a recognized technical school as a Telecommunications / Electronics Technologist, Network Analyst or equivalent.
  • Requires minimum of 5 years technical experience.
  • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
  • Combined education and experience in the management of network operations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills and abilities regarding networks and operations.
  • Experience with MPLS and microwave radio systems.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, network troubleshooting and reporting tools.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
  • Strong ability to work in a team environment and with many diverse technical disciplines.
  • Motivation and ability to work a modified schedule and occasional overtime during emergencies.
  • Be available as per UUWA contract for 24 hour on call requirements in a rotating schedule with the other NOC Operators.
  • If based at a field office location, there is a requirement for periodic travel to head office for work purposes.
  • Proven track record of good attendance and job performance.
