Job Description


NAVAL ARCHITECT Aversan Inc. ( ) is a reputable Engineering Company that provides expertise in Systems Integration, Product Design/Development and Software/Product Testing for highly regulated industries including Digital Health, Medical Devices, IT and Aerospace. We are currently seeking a qualified Naval Architect to work on leading edge technology products. The successful candidate for this position will be a part of highly motivated and highly technical work environment that feeds off the collective energy of a team-oriented workplace.

Location: Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible Prepare documented work scopes, suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as Original Equipment Manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers;
  • Prepare technical quotations, proposals, and cost estimates for Customer approval;
  • Developing and reviewing technical job instructions and engineering work packages;
  • Providing technical input into problems associated with equipment or system malfunction, including failure analysis and solution development.
  • Support and sometimes manage the preparation of hull system related design change documentation including manufacturing drawings, installation instructions and test and trials documentation;
  • Conduct detailed naval architecture tasks, including:
  • Requirements analysis; Failure analysis; Design calculations; Obsolescence assessments; Performance improvement investigations; Material compatibility investigation; Review of equipment/system maintenance documentation; Risk and hazard assessments; Weight & moment assessments; Support management of lifting appliance certification and testing; Design and configuration control of Hull Systems; and Assure compliance with hull related Classification Society, Naval Ship Code and Polar Code requirements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • An Engineering degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture or Mechanical Engineering;
  • Minimum of ten years maritime experience in Ship Repair, Ship Building or Ship Operational Experience;
  • Must have 10+ years experience in project management of ship repair and engineering change projects;
  • Must have experience with design and certification of shipboard lifting appliances including marine cranes;
  • Familiar with conducting weight and stability calculations and associated tools, and lightship surveys;
  • Previous experience working with a defense contract;
  • Language: English (Essential), French (Desirable);
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in Nova Scotia, Ontario, or British Columbia, Canada.
