Summary:
Do you have interest and/or experience working on environmental initiatives with First Nations? Are you interested in developing and implementing community incentives to reduce agricultural water pollution while helping nature and creating green jobs for youth?
Chippewas of the Thames First Nation seeks a dynamic and motivated Nature Based Incentive Program Coordinator to serve as a full-time staff person to help to develop and support environmental restoration projects and community sustainability efforts to improve water quality in the Thames River.
This new position will be based in the Department of Treaty Lands and Environment and will help to develop and support the creation of a Nature Based Incentive Program to improve local water quality and regional ecosystem health, while employing local Indigenous Guardians in environmental restoration projects.
Responsibilities:
Supporting the planning, design and implementation of nature-based solutions projects (e.g. wetlands, riparian zone restorations) to reduce phosphorous loads into the Thames River and wider Lake Erie basin
Leading outreach and engagement with community members and local farmers to advance and promote the implementation of incentives such as nature-based solutions and/or agricultural best management practices
Designing, implementing and managing transparent and efficient incentive payment processes
Participating in conducting site visits and supporting restoration project designs
Supporting the regular collection of water and soil samples
Supporting the interpreting and presenting of laboratory results
Complete other duties as assigned, including grant financial reporting and funder program reporting
Qualifications:
High-school diploma (O.S.S.D) or equivalent.
Degree or diploma in environmental studies or sciences preferred
Interest and/or experience with project development and program management,
Willingness to learn, engage with co-workers, community members and collaborators in program and project developments
Interest in advancing community nature based solutions and incentive funding and finance programs and opportunities with a focus on phosphorus reduction in the Thames River watershed
Understanding of First Nations, sustainable agriculture, water quality and best management practices and/or willingness to learn
Experience with water and soil quality monitoring an asset
Awareness of standard health and safety procedures
Interest and/or experience working outside on occasion
Knowledge of GIS mapping an asset
Effective writing and communication skills
Valid G license.
