Annual salary: $ 86,200.00 - 92,900.00


What you'll do




Assesses and analyzes project related data and methodologies; prepares material for agency review including the
preparation of reports detailing impact assessments and possible mitigation or compensation measures required to offset


impacts resulting from existing, planned or future BC Hydro operations, maintenance work or projects in assigned area/

program.




Prepares detailed terms of reference, budget estimates, related analytical and other research reports for a full range of
complex fish and wildlife related research/program projects; determines project approach and objectives, parameters, costs


and staff requirements and establishes priorities; reviews evaluates and recommends selection of consultants and reviews


their reports to determine technical acceptability.




Prepares work plans, work schedules and implements programs for mitigating and/or compensating for the effects of new
and existing BC Hydro facilities, waste management / pollution prevention systems, operations and construction projects on


fish, wildlife, other resources and natural systems; inspects, monitors and administers projects.




Plans, implements, monitors and reports on technical studies and field programs associated with construction, operations,
maintenance and waste management / pollution prevention activities. Conducts research, special programs or technical


studies, including determining implications of using various environmental control technologies in existing and proposed BC


Hydro facilities; determines, recommends and/or provides advice to others in establishing project or study approaches,


investigation parameters, costs, staff requirements and setting of priorities; prepares related impact, assessment, planning,


project and other reports.







Develops and reviews facilities management and ongoing projects and plans to ensure consistency with environmental
regulations, policies and standards and ensures that required programs can be effectively and efficiently implemented;


initiates and assists with the development of waste management policies, standards and guidelines.




Liaises with administrative, engineering, regulatory, public groups, program and research staff regarding the impact and
ramifications of structures and water levels on a variety of natural resources; ensures that environmental issues, objectives


and strategies are considered and incorporated into the business planning process.




Acts as a biological and/or scientific specialist at public meetings, license hearings, program or environmental groups;
develops and conducts training and presentation sessions as required; provides technical advice and instructions to field


personnel in the event of emergency environmental problems.




Is deployed to the field to respond to unforeseen environmental concerns and coordinates mitigation by contacting
necessary participants and arranging for their attendance at the scene.




Provides technical direction and expert advice to area/program or cross discipline staff at the steering committee level or
contractors involved in assigned projects.




Provides work leadership to and performs all the functions of the Natural Resource Specialist 2 job.

Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.

What you bring




Completion of a Bachelor degree in Natural Resource or Environmental Studies with at least six (6) years of relevant work
experience or as an equivalent, completion of Technologist Diploma in Natural Resources or Environmental Studies with


seven (7) years of relevant work experience.




Must be eligible for membership with the College of Applied Biology.


Valid BC Driver's License required.

This is a full-time permanent (FTR) MoveUP Group 11 opportunity on the team based at our Edmonds office location in
Burnaby, BC.




The preferred headquarter location for this opportunity is Burnaby (Edmonds), however we may be willing to consider
other British Columbia headquarter locations (notably Vernon, Kamloops, Prince George, Campbell River, Nanaimo or


Castlegar) depending on operational requirements and this can be discussed further in the selection process. Please note


this flexibility would also be subject to workspace availability.




This role is within our Fish and Aquatic Science team in BC Hydro's Environment Water Program group. We provide
innovative solutions to complex regulatory requirements, aquatic restoration needs and reputational/relationship risks. Our


small team is responsible for several province-wide initiatives associated with regulatory and corporate commitments to


address aquatic effects from our operations and projects.




The candidate selection process will give preference to those applicants with a Registered Professional Biologist
designation (RPBio) in good standing with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology (CAB). Regardless of candidate


selection, registration with CAB will be a requirement following acceptance of this position.




A condition of employment is to maintain your Class 5 driver's license in good standing.


As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment or do a presentation.


Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will
be required as a pre-condition to employment.




Spends approximately 60 to 70% of time in the field. Exposed to all types of weather conditions at work sites that may be
remote. Approximately 10% of time is spent in a vehicle.




Regular exposure to river and lake conditions when performing field work. May be required to operate boats,
snowmobiles, ATVs, 4x4 trucks on rough access roads.




Climbs or walks on uneven, steep and/or rough terrain in all weathers during field work.
