The National Yard Operations Manager reports to the Head of Operations Canada and is responsible for developing and supporting branch yard managers and personnel with daily yard activities. He/she is responsible for yard process implementation & efficiency. He/she will support facility improvements and/or expansions, follow through yard excellence projects as needed, insuring compliance with all company guidelines and governing regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Trains and develops branch yard managers by supporting them with their daily yard activities and functions.
  • Conducts monthly quality checks and assists with implementing corrective measures to improve material quality as per Doka Quality standards.
  • Reviews monthly man hours and provides recommendations to increase yard productivity.
  • Reviews processes in the branches and implements corrective measures when needed, for waste reduction and efficiency enhancement across various front-end functions in the daily yard activities.
  • Ensures reconditioning supplies and equipment are ordered for branches (i.e. forklifts, pressure washers, reconditioning tools, etc.) & ensure equipment maintenance.
  • Ensures all yard personnel and managers know how to properly review, grade, process and recondition material.
  • Assists with material cycle and inventory counts (including yard preparation, yard mapping, updating count sheets, etc).
  • Performance Metrics: Records & monitors key performance indicators (KPI\'s) to track each branch stays within agreed targets of HOP-C, checks progress and makes data-driven decision.
  • Prepare annual budget recommendations & monitor spendings of actual CAPEX against budget.
  • Provides short and/or midterm operative support in YOP to various branch locations, such as reconditioning, return processing & apps, order pulling efforts, etc. when necessary.
  • Tracks yard excellence projects progress and ensures reporting to Head of Operation Canada.
  • Establishes and trains yard managers on progress reports and ERP including quality checks and facility inspections.
  • Accountable for managing data entries and tasks within established timeframes/deadlines of month end.
  • Develops rapport with yard and warehouse officers. Acts as a consultant when questions arise pertaining to physical material movement and record keeping in the order processing system.
  • Creates administrative checklists to ensure compliance with DOKA Processes & Quality standards.
  • Cost Reduction: Identifies cost-saving opportunities while maintaining or improving service and product quality.
  • Complies with Doka policies and procedures in accordance with governing regulations (Zoning Ordinances, OSHA, etc.). Ensures equipment and supplies are maintained in compliance with OSHA and other appropriate standards.
  • Identifies and plans prompt corrective action for any issues with building safety, equipment and systems.
Other Responsibilities/Peripheral Functions:
  • Extensive travel required for long period of up to a week spent in different branch locations.
  • Travel to branches to assist with material management and workflow identifies issues and recommends solutions as needed.
  • Performs other tasks/projects as assigned, such as participating in yard operation excellence initiatives.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required. Degree in Engineering or Business a plus.
  • Proven experience in operational excellence and/or facilities, with a minimum of 5 years of leadership position.
  • Experience background in formwork and/or construction is a plus.
  • Works independently, achieves results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to understand and comply with building/safety codes and OSHA requirements.
  • Highly self-starter with exceptional problem-solving abilities able to prioritize, take initiative, multi-task and work well under pressure.
  • Flexible and willing to both lead others as well as perform hands-on work as needed.
  • Must have exemplary follow-up skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor and presentation with a commitment to delivering the highest standards of customer service.
  • Basic knowledge in computer literacy using MS Word, Excel (PowerPoint is a plus).
  • Excellent communication skills including an excellent command of English (speaking, reading, writing).
  • Willing and able to learn new products, concepts and techniques.
  • Organized team player able to work in a deadline driven, fast-paced environment.
