Are you a skilled finance leader with a passion for nonprofit impact and operational excellence? Breakthrough T1D is seeking a seasoned professional to oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. With at least five years of experience in accounting and finance, ideally within a registered charity or nonprofit, you bring proven leadership in managing finance teams, advanced Excel skills, and hands-on experience with financial systems such as Workday.

Here's more detail about what your primary responsibilities would be:




Lead financial projects, identifying gaps and opportunities in systems and processes; recommend improvements to policies, procedures, system functionality, and other financial controls. Manage month-end and year-end cycles, including financial statements, statutory reporting, and financial reporting for the annual report. Liaise with external auditors to produce annual audited statements. Manage daily accounting operations such as cash management, banking, investments, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger. Manage the production of annual organizational budgeting and quarterly forecasts, working with budget owners, monitoring variances, and recommending corrective actions. Ensure implementation of financial administration and control policies, standards, procedures, practices, and systems consistent with Board and CEO-approved directives, applicable legislation, and GAAP to ensure compliance, especially regarding CRA regulations. Approve financial transactions in the CRM system, ensuring adherence to CRA and internal tax receipting and accounting policies, including the creation and issuance of tax receipts. Oversee grant processing and tracking of grant programs. Lead and coach a high-performing finance team, providing supervision, performance management, and career development support. Assess team priorities and resources to balance immediate needs with long-term strategic planning.



What we're looking for:




Minimum of 5 years of previous accounting and finance experience and relevant university degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Current Accounting designation required Experience working in a registered charity is preferred, with an excellent understanding of GAAP, income tax rules and CRA compliance pertaining to non-profit organizations Excellent people management skills with the ability to coach, develop and mentor staff Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning Experience with financial systems and donor management systems; experience with Workday Adaptive Planning an asset Proficiency in Office365, including advanced Excel; experience with Power BI is an asset Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate operational issues impacting financial performance of the organization Strong negotiation, analytical and problem solving skills Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines Ability to exercise discretion Bilingual in English and French is considered an asset.




The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $78,000 - $88,000, commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.




Location Preference:

This role is open to candidates living anywhere in Canada and will work remotely from a home office. Candidates living in the Toronto area may be asked to attend the office 1-2x per month to help the team with finance tasks required to be taken care of in-person.
