National Communications and Engagement Leader

At EY, you\'ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to become the best version of you. And we\'re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all.

The opportunity

EY is on a mission to build a better working world - and communications are at the core of helping us realize that ambition. Authentic and dynamic storytelling with unique points of view is critical to engaging employees, clients, media and the public at large in today\'s transformative age. We have a lot of stories to tell at EY, and we need your help to tell them.

Reporting to the Head of Brand, Marketing and Communications (BMC), the successful candidate will work closely with senior executives, while leading a national team of Public Relations (PR), Social Media and Communications professionals to develop and execute thoughtful, integrated and forward-thinking strategies that convene our people and the public around common, meaningful narratives. You\'ll also play a critical role in both change management and issues management.

As a marketing savvy communicator, you are an incredible writer at heart, have an intrinsic drive to connect with audiences, a bold vision and an exceptional eye for detail. You are comfortable with the unpredictability that is part of a dynamic corporate environment like ours and thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed, high-visibility setting. People management is your passion and stakeholder management is your strength. And if status quo isn\'t in your vocabulary, you like to work in grey environments, have a natural talent for words and you\'re interested in being challenged, you\'ve come to the right place.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Build and enable high-impact, timely and measured internal and external communications, public relations and social media campaigns to support national business and executive strategies.
  • Ensure cohesive and integrated strategies across channels that connect internal and external communications and broader brand and marketing efforts.
  • Advise and support Executive Committee and national leaders on internal and external communications strategies, including large-scale change management and reputational issues management.
  • Coach, mentor and guide PR, Social Media and Communications Leaders - and a broader team of approximately 15 professionals - on strategy, frameworks and deliverables.
  • Play an active role in furthering the professional growth and development of team leads and broader team members.
  • Actively participate as a member of the BMC Leadership Team, strengthening connections and supporting integration across all areas of brand, marketing and communications.
  • Manage budget and external contract relationships.
Skills and attributes for success
  • Proven and progressive experience leading communications and engagement teams and delivering strong results.
  • A strategic mindset focused on initiating new ideas and stories to elevate the EY brand.
  • Ability to think outside the box and develop engaging and innovative communications with a strong understanding of how best to deliver tactics across different channels.
  • Readiness to work in a fast-paced, complex yet dynamic work environment and able to comfortably multitask on competing priorities, while operating with a sense of urgency.
  • Stellar communication skills, with the ability to understand and communicate complex ideas persuasively and efficiently across various communications channels.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills and high-quality standards for timely product delivery.
  • Ability to contribute to communications deliverables while simultaneously managing, coaching and motivating a team of communications professionals across Canada.
  • Extensive experience advising and supporting executive leadership on personal brand, communications strategies and issues management.
  • Strong experience liaising with leadership, Risk Management and/or Legal teams on corporate issues.
  • Experience collaborating across brand, marketing and communications functions to deliver integrated, high-impact campaigns.
  • Understanding of communications measurement tools, tactics and benchmarks.
To qualify for the role, you must have
  • Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing communications or a related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of professional communications experience; B2B experience preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years in a team leadership role.
  • Deep understanding and extensive experience planning and supporting strategic communications campaigns and executive communications.
  • Proven experience and comfort navigating a highly matrixed, fast-paced yet dynamic work environment with the ability to remain organized, multitask and adapt quickly.
  • Experience managing, coaching and inspiring a large team of professionals.
  • Strong experience working with or managing C-suite executives.
  • Organized and articulate, with impeccable attention to detail.
Ideally you will also have:
  • Previous experience with change management and transformation.
  • Familiarity using communications software, such as Content Management Systems, Cision and/or Meltwater.
  • Bilingualism in English and French an asset.
