Position Summary:
The first course of a five-course sequence that facilitates the acquisition of Musicianship and Ear Training objectives in diatonic music of foundational complexity. Melodies will include stepwise motion and skips within the tonic triad, in the major and minor modes, in simple and compound meters, including note values as short as the division of the beat. Rhythmic exercises will include note values as short as the subdivision of the beat in simple meters with a quarter-note beat, and note values as short as the division of the beat in 6/8 time, without syncopation.
Qualifications - Required: Masters in Music.
Qualifications - Asset: Preference given to candidates with experience teaching collegiate level musical skills courses, using movable Do system (Do-based minor) and the Takadimi system of rhythmic solmization. A doctoral degree in music is an asset.
Notes: Instructors are expected to work within a team; multiple sections of the course are coordinated by a senior instructor appointed to the role and sections complete common assessments.
