Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Music Therapist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music therapy and experience working with seniors, particularly in long term care settings. As a Music Therapist, you will provide therapeutic music interventions to enhance the emotional, cognitive, and social well-being of residents. Your expertise will play a vital role in resident care, helping to improve their quality of life through the power of music.

Duties

1. Completes individual assessments, and places appropriate residents in music therapy programming.

2. Plans, organizes, and implements group and individual music therapy programs to meet specific goals.

3. Develops and maintains appropriate forms for assessments, care conference reviews, program descriptions and instrument inventories.

4. Adheres to department policies and procedures in relation to charting, recording statistics, quality improvement practices, program reviews and audits.

5. Consults and liaisons with recreation staff to provide quality programming appropriate to residents and thorough assessments for resident care conferences.

6. Independently liaisons with interdisciplinary teams to maintain communication necessary to provide quality care.

7. Maintains current knowledge of and complies with all company policies and procedures including protocol for infection control and resident safety.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Be a member in good standing of the Music Therapy Association of BC and the Canadian Association for Music Therapy Successful completion of a recognized Music Therapy Program. Preferred experience in geriatrics, plus suitable experience with dementia populations.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be proficient in English Cantonese or Mandarin language skills an asset Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Ability to physically carry-out the duties of the position. Ability to organize work and possesses good time management skills.
