The Director of Public Works is responsible for overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of public infrastructure and services within the community. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with strong management skills to ensure efficient operations and compliance with regulations. The Director will work closely with various stakeholders, including government officials, community members, and contractors, to enhance the quality of public services and infrastructure.
Duties
Lead and manage all aspects of the Public Works Department, including engineering, construction, maintenance, and operations.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs to ensure effective service delivery.
Oversee the planning and execution of public works projects from conception through completion.
Manage departmental budgets and resources efficiently while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Foster relationships with community stakeholders to identify needs and improve public services.
Supervise staff, providing guidance and support for professional development.
Prepare reports and presentations for city officials regarding departmental activities and project statuses.
Ensure safety standards are met in all operations and promote a culture of safety within the department.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
Proven experience in public works management or a similar role.
Strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction practices, and municipal regulations.
Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams effectively.
Strong analytical skills for problem-solving and decision-making.
Exceptional communication skills for interacting with diverse groups of stakeholders.
Proficiency in project management software and tools is desirable.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
