Burnside & Associates Limited is looking for a motivated and technically skilled Junior to Intermediate Municipal Infrastructure Engineer or Engineering Assistant who thrives in a team-driven environment. We are seeking candidates who are interested in working out of our Collingwood, Orangeville, Pickering, Hamilton, or Wingham offices.


What You'll Be Doing



You'll play a key role in delivering high-impact municipal infrastructure projects -- from early-stage planning through detailed design and construction support. As part of a collaborative team, you'll take ownership of design tasks, coordinate with other disciplines, and produce high-quality technical deliverables that support safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure. Whether you're drafting contract drawings, preparing reports, or contributing to proposals, your work will help shape communities and drive project success.


What Success Looks Like in This Role




Deliver high quality designs

on road, watermain, sanitary, and stormwater projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with standards.

Take ownership

of contract drawings and design reports with guidance from senior staff-- contributing to efficient project execution and client satisfaction.

Produce clear and detailed technical documentation

(design reports, specifications, cost estimates, etc.) that supports high-quality tender packages.

Coordinate efficiently

with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to keep projects on schedule and within scope.

Contribute to winning work

by supporting proposals, schedules, and fee estimates that align with project goals and client needs.

Support construction delivery

through involvement in contract administration, resolving issues quickly to minimize delays.

Demonstrate initiative

in staying current on design standards, regulations, and technical tools -- sharing knowledge and mentoring where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities




Lead or support the production of engineering designs and drawings for linear infrastructure projects (roads, storm, sanitary, and watermain). Perform preliminary and detailed designs aligned with current municipal and provincial standards. Prepare thorough technical reports, tender documents, and cost estimates Engage in project planning, including scoping, work plan creation, and fee development. Participate in client meetings, site visits, and construction phase services. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align technical outputs with project objectives. Remain engaged in continuous learning and represent Burnside at industry events and conferences.

What You Bring




A degree in Civil Engineering with relevant design experience. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible/in-progress. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Office tools. Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with a clear ability to explain complex engineering concepts. A proactive mindset, strong organizational habits, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Familiarity with municipal design criteria, OPSS/OPSD, and relevant provincial acts and regulations. A client-focused mindset and the ability to represent Burnside with professionalism and integrity.
