This position is responsible for safely and efficiently performing daily field operations in accordance with the Company's approved operating processes and in a manner that complies with customer requirements and ensures customer satisfaction. The Mud Logging Geologist performs field geology data collection, evaluation, analysis and interpretive work in connection with the drilling of oil and gas wells. This surface logging work includes an analytical record of the geology of the drilling process, drilling information, the presence of oil and gas, various issues encountered during drilling and communicating an accurate record of same and other relevant information to the customer's geologist; the Logging Geologist also assists in other field operations. The Logging Geologist is responsible for the quality, timeliness, and accuracy of his or her work product.
Duties
1. Safety - be aware of health, safety and environmental issues at-all-times. Take proactive measures to avoid problems in these areas. Work and drive safely while complying with all Company and customer safety requirements. Attendance to the pre-tour safety meetings held at the well site are mandatory.
2. Surface Logging - The basic responsibilities and duties of a Mud Logging Geologist include the following:
a. Understand and be aware of geological characteristics of formations drilled and to be drilled.
b. Collect, clean, analyze, describe, evaluate and interpret samples and other drilling information.
c. Evaluate samples for the presence of hydrocarbons.
d. Prepare a deliverable mud log
e. Monitor and evaluate drilling and gas detection information to identify hazardous and unforeseen events and problems and report findings to relevant drilling personnel.
f. Monitor equipment status and work with experienced crew members to troubleshoot.
g. Perform and evaluate other geological, chemical or analytical tests
h. Discuss formation tops and other geological information with Customer Geologist and other customer representatives
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in geology or environmental or other earth sciences or
Petroleum Engineering Technology Program or
Prior Mudlogging experience
Note: Position is offshore based working a three week on and three week off rotation.
