Facilities is responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for all staff, patients and visitors. This is accomplished by responding to preventative and demand maintenance requests, participation on various health centre committees, training of our staff in safe work practices such as lock out/tag out, working from heights and non-violent crisis prevention, etc. Facilities employs licensed tradespersons who bring with them years of experience that they apply to their everyday work at RVH. The Facilities team is supported by a maintenance planner and two supervisors who report to the Operations Director, Facilities Support Services. Our team of highly trained professionals draw on a wealth of experience and technical expertise in maintaining the health centre\xe2\x80\x99s physical environment. We provide maintenance services to achieve the highest standards of quality healthcare and patient service at our campus on Georgian Drive as well as two off-site buildings on Wellington Street in Barrie. As the direct resource for the health centre utility infrastructure, we ensure a safe, functional, supportive and effective environment for patients, staff members, volunteers and visitors. As the Plant Mechanic, under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor or Manager, you will maintain the integrity and safety operation of all building related systems 24/7. Must able to diagnose, trouble shoot and enact mechanical, electrical, HVAC and computerized systems repairs. May also need to assume other trade duties (i.e. plumber) as needed. As a qualified candidate you will have the following job requirements:
  • Suitable Post-Secondary Diploma, or, Certification in an accredited technology or trade program (such as Electrician, Building Operator, Carpenter, or Stationary Engineer, etc.), or, suitable equivalent work experience.
  • Preferably 5-10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a plant, technical or construction environment.
  • Experience using hand and power tools and willingness to learn new tasks, techniques and equipment including computerized monitoring systems.
  • Experience working productively and in concert with outside contractors and vendors to ensure building systems functions are maintained.
  • Familiarity and willingness to learn and become proficient in the reading and operation of modern fire panel, elevator, HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operating manuals.
  • Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of building codes, fire regulations, WHMIS, OHSA, ESA, TSSA requirements.
  • Fundamental computer skills, including ability to write short memos and provide updates using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Capable of sending, retrieving and responding to e-mail messages and accept meeting invites in Microsoft Outlook.

  • Capable of providing superior customer service responding to routine, urgent and emergency demand calls as, and when, assigned in an effort to safeguard the efficient and safe operation of the hospital.
  • Ability to reflect the core values of the hospital with respect to patient privacy, diligent execution of duties, in addition to the overall integrity and safety of patients and staff.
  • Willingness to work independently and prioritize a wide variety of preventative and demand call maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to actively participate and/or lead individual departmental initiatives, including efficiency exercises, resource analysis and Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Willingness to acquire and/or maintain trade certificates, designations, licences, etc. and attend training courses, workshops as may be required.
  • Ability to respond to and support emergency situations where safeguarding staff and patient safety is paramount.
  • Desire to work in a progressive environment geared towards change, innovation and optimizing efficiencies.
  • Willingness to acknowledge and abide organizational and department policies and procedures aimed at optimizing available resources.
  • Shifts may vary depending on work demands
