This MSc Bursary will start September 1, 2025 and end on March 31, 2027.


Scholarship of $25,000/year divided into 3 equal installments each year. It is expected that the student will work approximately 10 to 15 hours per week for a two-year period (six semesters).

Duties


----------


We are seeking a highly motivated M.Sc. student to conduct research focused on Mapping Reservoir, Seal, and Preservation Components associated with Natural Hydrogen and Helium Systems. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in Geology and/or Biology and a demonstrated understanding of the processes involved in the formation and preservation of natural hydrogen. The successful applicant will be expected to participate regularly in research group meetings, actively contribute to collaborative projects, and disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications.

The intention is to staff one student position for the completion of a Master of Science degree to be jointly supervised by Dr. Mohammad Parsasadr (GSC, Ottawa, ON) and Dr. Benjamin Tutolo (UCalgary, Calgary, AB).

Essential Education:

Students who are currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in a MSc program at The University of Calgary, with specialization specialization relevant to the duties of the position. Proof will be required before the start date. Graduation with a Bachelor of Science from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Earth Science or Biological Science. Proof will be required before the start date.
Degree equivalency


Essential Experience:

In the context of student recruitment in the federal public service, experience can be acquired through studies, work experience or volunteer activities. The successful candidates are expected to have experience in:

Experience working independently and in a team. Experience in managing geoscientific data. Experience in analyzing, interpreting, and validating Geoscientific Data from multiple sources. Experience in compiling Geospatial information and/or Geoscientific datasets.

Essential Knowledge in:

Knowledge of biological conditions that exert control on the preservation of natural hydrogen, mapping and creating digital maps, programming and machine learning. Knowledge of Natural Hydrogen Systems.

Effective written and oral communication skills in English. Commitment to upholding values and ethics.

Conditions of employment

Reliability Status security clearance - NOTE: Each student hired through the Research Affiliate Program (RAP) must meet the security requirements of the position as a condition of employment.

Therefore, the student will be asked by the hiring organization to complete security-related documents.

Ability to travel for possible fieldwork, conferences, and meetings.
Be in possession of a valid driver's license.


For fieldwork, the student must be able to pass a Health Canada health assessment, and possess or obtain safety courses as needed, including first aid/CPR.
