Job Description

ROLE





Assess, administer IV medications and monitor patients. Infuse/Preform Transfusions. Co-ordinate all activities related to the care of patients on the unit in an organized and proficient manner to their scope of practice. Take and give report at appropriate times. Provides competent nursing care to all assigned patients. Participates in discharge planning/multidisciplinary rounds, family conferences. Assists other staff with their assignments, as necessary. Ensures physicians' orders are carried out accurately and appropriately; responsible for safe administration of medications and treatments. Assist physicians with procedures as necessary. Responsible for all charting of patients under his/her care. Initiate and assist in Code Blue & Rapid Response procedure. Responsible for assessing and reporting changes in patient condition the patient's physician and charge person when necessary. Assist in the Orientation of new staff members. Provides education to patients and/or family in conjunction with other staff members/departments. Ensures adequate supplies are available and notifies charge person when equipment may need replacing or re-ordered.


REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)





Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university. Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current CPR. IV certification.


REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)





Previous emergency or ambulatory care experience. Visible and approachable for patients, families and staff with ongoing communication regarding patient monitoring and evaluation of activities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and effectively interact as a team member in an interdisciplinary setting. Effective leader, organizer and planner capable of making timely decisions and exercising tact and good judgement. Effective time management skills. Current knowledge of drugs, treatments and their interactions.

Location:

Multi-site working at both Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) in Huntsville, and South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) in Bracebridge. Applicants Applicants must reside within 125km of one of our hospital campuses or be willing to relocate prior to starting. *Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis




Hours of Work:

Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement.
