The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia\'s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. The Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division of Public Works is responsible for the inspection and compliance of all vehicles that use our highways.
About Our Opportunity
Under the supervision of the Manager of Motor Vehicle Inspection, the Inspector is responsible to ensure automobile dealers, motor vehicle inspection stations and motor vehicle inspection testers comply with the various requirements contained within the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
Primary Accountabilities
The Inspector is responsible for dealer premise inspections, complaint investigations at auto dealerships and inspection stations throughout the province and auditing the records of these businesses. The Inspector may apply penalties for infractions found, appear in court as an expert witness, and provide recommendations to the Deputy Registrar of Motor Vehicles for suspension of business license and or testers licenses. As part of the Vehicle Transportation Inspection team, Inspector provides expert subject knowledge to stakeholders and plays a significant role in the licensing of these businesses.
Qualifications and Experience
High School completion and certificate of qualification in Automotive Service Technician Trade with 4 years experience as a journeyperson. You must be or have been a Motor Vehicle Inspection Tester under the Nova Scotia Vehicle Inspection program.
You must be able to be appointment as a Special Constable and as a Peace Officer. It is necessary to have a valid driver\'s license, with a clean driving record as well as a clean criminal record. Candidates are required to submit copies of their driver abstract and criminal record search no older than two weeks from the time of the submitted job application.

You apply sound independent judgment to resolve complex issues.
