The opportunity

EY’s insurance and actuarial practice in Canada is growing and we are looking for actuarial professionals with experience in life and health insurance to join the practice. Put simply, our actuarial advisers deliver creative and innovative thinking to clients worldwide, supporting them in making confident financial judgements in support of their business goals. Here, you’ll be right at the heart of that mission, leading engagement teams, working directly with clients, mentoring and developing team members and building your personal brand as a leader in your field.
In this role you will also have the unique opportunity to broaden your network by working alongside our Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services colleagues in the US and serving a diverse pool of US companies, including major global insurers and reinsurers. Given the nature of the ever-changing insurance landscape in the US, this will provide you with access to an expanded client base with new and interesting challenges.
Your key responsibilities

It’s all about providing the knowledge our clients need to execute strategies and resolve complex issues. We’ll look to you to lead client engagement teams in the Life/Health area of our practice, in a wide variety of areas including:

Stay abreast of current business, regulatory and industry trends relevant to the client's business.

• Cultivate and manage business development opportunities. Understand EY and its service lines and actively assess/ present ways to serve clients. Develop and maintain long-term client relationships and networks. Develop relationships with team members across all EY practices to serve client needs.
• Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate to new knowledge. Possess good business acumen. Remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge.
• Understand/communicate complex actuarial issues. Stay informed of and apply professional standards and firm policies (e.g., Actuarial Standards of Practice).
• Develop a strong personal brand and enhance the EY brand by writing articles, participating in industry groups and speaking at seminars

To qualify for the role you must have

• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or other related major
• Approximately 5+ years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years of people and/or project management
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and actuarial software such as AXIS, Prophet, ALFA, MoSes, VBA and/or C++
• A proven ability to manage time while working on multiple, often shifting, projects, and the confidence to work both collaboratively and independently under pressure
• Excellent analytical and project management skills, along with a creative approach to overcoming challenges
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to understand and persuade on complex subjects both in writing and verbally
• Ideally, you’ll also have
• Previous consulting experience or experience implementing new processes/procedures in a corporate environment.
