Job Description


JOB PURPOSE

To collaboratively participate in the planning and delivery of total nursing care to meet individual patient needs in accordance with the philosophy, objectives, and policies of 3400 Cardiology Inpatient units. As a member of an interdisciplinary team, provides quality patient care within the scope of professional nursing practice to patients and families on 3400. Although primarily assigned 3400, the RN may be floated as needed by nursing supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current registration as a practicing member of the Nurses Association of New Brunswick.
  • Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course and recertified yearly as a condition of continuing employment (or willingness to obtain)
  • Possesses the medical/surgical nursing knowledge and clinical skills/expertise necessary to provide care for this population and off service patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to emergency situations, rapidly changing priorities, and complex patient care needs.
  • Be willing to obtain and maintain competency in the nursing care of patient requiring:
  • BCMI (Basic Cardiac Monitoring Interpretation)
  • BCLS and ACLS certification
  • Basic ECG interpretation
  • Administration of titrated and IV push cardio-active drugs.
  • Defibrillation certification and willingness to participate as a member of the Code Blue Team
  • CVAD line - central venous access device
  • Accessing/de-accessing Port-a-caths and Hickman lines within three (3) months
  • PN - parental nutrition
  • Care of the dying and family care
  • Other competencies as necessary
  • Pain Management course
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or obtain within 1 year.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, as assigned, including weekends and holidays throughout the year.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work Record.

  • Work in other patient care areas as requested by nursing supervisor/manager.
