The Mobile Software Application Designer will be responsible for the development and execution of mobile-based applications tailored for military use. This 12-month term role focuses on designing robust, secure, and intuitive applications that operate in high-stakes environments. The designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure applications meet stringent military requirements, emphasizing reliability, performance, and adaptability to dynamic operational needs.

A core responsibility is crafting exceptional user experiences (UX) for military personnel, ensuring applications are intuitive and efficient within the desired concept of operations. The designer will conduct user research and create interfaces that prioritize ease of use, accessibility, and clarity. By incorporating feedback from end-users, the designer will ensure applications enhance situational awareness and decision-making in mission-critical scenarios.

The designer will prioritize seamless connectivity, enabling applications to function in challenging network environments, including low-bandwidth or disconnected scenarios. Responsibilities include coding, testing, and deploying applications with a focus on secure data transmission and interoperability with military systems and cloud/on-prem database solutions. The role demands expertise in mobile platforms, encryption standards, and agile development to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.



Duties & Responsibilities:



Design Intuitive User Interfaces: Create user-friendly, accessible interfaces for mobile applications (iOS, Android, ATAK), ensuring military personnel can navigate and operate them efficiently under various concepts of operations, incorporating user feedback to optimize UX. Develop Secure Mobile Applications: Code, test, and deploy robust applications tailored for military use, adhering to strict security protocols and encryption standards to protect sensitive data in diverse operational environments. Ensure Seamless Connectivity: Implement solutions for reliable application performance in low-bandwidth or disconnected scenarios, enabling uninterrupted functionality and secure data transmission across defined data pathways. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with military personnel, project managers, and engineering teams to gather requirements, validate designs, and ensure applications align with mission-critical objectives and operational needs. Conduct Usability Testing and Iteration: Perform rigorous testing, including user acceptance and stress tests, to refine applications, ensuring high performance, scalability, and adaptability based on real-world feedback and evolving requirements.

Qualifications:



University education with Bachelor's degree or a suitable combination of academic qualifications and relevant experience/skills. Previous experience (5+ years) in mobile application development, preferably within the defense sector. Previous experience (5+ years) with iOS programming languages (Ideally, Swift) and/or Android programming languages (Lua, Python) Ability to turn technical data and user feedback into a creative UI that enhances UX. Strong communication skills both oral and written in English; includes excellent presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills which include the ability to interact effectively, tactfully, and diplomatically with military end users, government stakeholders, and internal teams. Ability to work autonomously as an individual contributor or in collaboration within a cross-functional team. Excellent organization and time management skills. * Ability to travel within Canada and the United States.
