You can troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems, as well as the ability to repair and adjust all necessary mechanical components as well as the ability to complete repairs in the field with limited resources.You love to the feeling that comes from managing the company fleet and keeping everything running smoothly in challenging conditions.

As the Mobile Heavy-Duty Mechanic, you are responsible for performing skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of our company fleet. Working remotely and independently, you will have the ability to troubleshoot major and minor mechanical problems. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but you are expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.

You will be travelling around Alberta, BC, and Yukon with the service truck. AFD will cover hotel and camps, flight accommodations, and provide meal allowances for the areas you will be travelling too.

Whom you are working with:

Primarily you work with the Fleet Maintenance & Asset Manager and shop staff with little direct daily supervision.

Your pay:

Our Journeyperson hourly rate is $48.50. There will be a premium added on top of the journeyperson wage when you are doing field work.

What you will do day-to-day:

• Diagnose defects in fleet and provide service for company fleet.
• Provide routine maintenance as well as possible engine overhauls.
• Check equipment for proper performance and inspect equipment to detect faults/ malfunctions.
• Repair and adjust hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and any other mechanical components.
• Diagnose any faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair that is required.
• Inspect, repair, and adjust gasoline and diesel-powered units.
• Perform incidental welding operations on equipment. (If qualified)
• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
• Perform mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required.
• Operate automotive servicing equipment.
• Installation of new and added-on equipment.
• Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics.
• Accurate completion of work orders and time sheets.
• Repair cooling, and lubrication systems.
• Repair mechanical transmissions, drivetrains, and final drives.
• Repair cable-operated working attachments, winches, compressors, pumps, electric generators, etc.
• Test repaired equipment for proper performance.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work.
• Instruct and assist apprentices.
• Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
• Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
• Maintain a clean working environment and good housekeeping practices.
• Work away from home in other AFD branches at times if requested.
• Other related duties as required or assigned.

What you will do occasionally:

• Some overtime and after-hours work may apply
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor to facilitate prompt correction or reporting

What you need to succeed:

• 5+ years experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic
• Red Seal Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certification required
• High School Diploma or GED required

Highly Valued Additional Experience/Skills/Education:

• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• B620 experience is valued
• CVIP license is an asset
• Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and e-mail
• Class 1 & 3 license is a valuable asset
