The Opportunity:
As part of the Mobile Crisis Response Team in collaboration with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), this role focuses on delivering patient-centered assessment, intervention, and education to individuals experiencing serious mental illness or acute psychiatric instability across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
The position involves responding to mental health crises in the community alongside law enforcement, providing timely triage, comprehensive assessment, and short-term intervention with an emphasis on stabilization and linkage to appropriate services. Responsibilities include evaluating psychiatric presentations, managing medical co-morbidities, and applying evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Strong knowledge of crisis intervention, risk assessment, and collaborative care planning is essential.
Qualifications:
Currently registered in good standing with a health regulatory College in the Province of Ontario.
Experience with Substance Abuse/Concurrent Disorders an asset.
At least four years of clinical experience in a mental health setting, with demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention and risk assessment.
Current CPR certification.
Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Substitute Decision Maker Act.
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification required.
Knowledge of the DSM IV.
Sound assessment skills with regards to physical assessment, mental assessment and risk assessment.
Experience in the application of Mental Health Assessment Tools.
Knowledge in Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy considered an asset.
Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Knowledge of family Dynamics.
Knowledge of pharmacology treatment of psychiatric disorders.
Knowledge of Regional Resources.
Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers.
Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.

Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Respond to mental health crises in the community in partnership with law enforcement, providing rapid assessment and intervention in accordance with current mental health standards and the Mental Health Act.
Conduct risk assessments and initiate appropriate crisis stabilization strategies, including short-term therapeutic interventions, safety planning, and linkage to ongoing supports.
Facilitate referrals to psychiatric, addiction, forensic, and community resources, ensuring continuity of care and collaboration with primary care and social service agencies.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational policy and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with family physicians, hospitals, and other members of the circle of care to coordinate psychiatric care and system navigation.
Engage with long-term care facilities, retirement homes, and community partners to support crisis resolution and prevent escalation.
Actively participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to case reviews, training, and clinical supervision.
Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to ethical standards required by professional regulatory bodies.

Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights. Regularly scheduled for up to 24 hours per week (48/pay).
Wage
: $49.27 to $58.51 per hour plus applicable shift premiums for evenings, nights and weekends.
