Saskatchewan Metis
Elections Act 2007
(Elections Act) and the MN-S
Constitution. The Adjudicator is independent from the political and bureaucratic arms of the Metis Nation-Saskatchewan. No elected official and no member of the executive government of Metis Nation-Saskatchewan shall interfere in any way with the independence of the work and decisions of the Adjudicator.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review & Interpret Election Laws- Apply the MN-S
Elections Act, Constitution, and Citizenship Act
to ensure compliance in all decisions.
Resolve Election Disputes- Hear and rule on
complaints referred by the Complaints Officer
from persons who believe that an offence has been committed under the Elections Act.
Make Binding Decisions- Issue clear, well-reasoned written decisions that align with MN-S constitution and precedents, and submit written decisions for each complaint referred for a hearing with the adjudicator.
Collaborate with Election Officials- Work alongside the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Complaints Officer to ensure a smooth and fair electoral process.
Maintain Confidentiality & Integrity- Uphold ethical standards while handling election matters.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Juris Doctor degree in law, and certification in administrative law, adjudication, or dispute resolution, and minimum 5 years of experience in adjudication, administrative law, mediation, dispute resolution, or election oversight.
Knowledge of Metis governance structures, self-government agreements, and Indigenous electoral processes.
Experience handling appeals, complaints, or legal interpretations in an election setting (preferred).
