The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre (CIFFC) supports wildfire management agencies across Canada by coordinating resource sharing, strengthening national collaboration, and advancing programs and standards that improve Canada's collective wildfire response and resilience. FireSmart Canada, a program under CIFFC, empowers communities and individuals to take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risk through education, resources, and best practices for prevention and mitigation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the FireSmart Canada Program Manager, the Mitigation Training Coordinator is responsible for the development, maintenance, and coordination of FireSmart Canada courses and training standards. This role supports CIFFC member agencies and plays a critical part in advancing wildfire mitigation education across Canada by ensuring training programs are current, accessible, and aligned with best practices. The Mitigation Training Coordinator will foster strong relationships with agency and whole-of-society partners, including educational institutions and interdisciplinary groups, to expand continuing education opportunities in sectors such as insurance, real estate, critical infrastructure, landscaping, construction, development, and planning. Travel may be required to support training initiatives and strengthen partnerships across Canada.
Key Responsibilities

• Coordinates the development and design of FireSmart Canada training and continuing education courses.
• Completes task analysis work across agencies, synthesizes information, and develops consensus.
• Produces learning support materials, developing clear and understandable training formats.
• Leads task teams and collaborates with subject matter experts to design and update training content (coordinates meetings, takes notes, produces minutes and/or appropriate documentation, etc).
• Coordinates new training development initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and partner agency needs.
• Facilitates collaboration among multiple stakeholders, including agencies, educational institutions, and industry partners, to advance training objectives.
• Supports the FireSmart Canada Trainer Network to ensure consistent delivery of FireSmart Canada training across Canada, including the Neighbourhood Recognition Program (NRP) Specialist and Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Specialist courses.
• Responsible for all training maintenance and updates for FireSmart Canada related training.
• Delivers course evaluations, identifying strengths and weaknesses, revising instructional material to meet changing requirements, and oversees the effectiveness and performance of those delivering the training.
• Supports the design and implementation planning for diverse learning formats including seminars, workshops, modular training, and e-learning.
• Administers the FireSmart Canada online courses and supports changing technologies in coordination with CIFFC contractors.
• Investigates, analyzes, and recommends innovative training delivery methods to enhance the learning experience for participants.
• When requested, attends conferences, workshops, and seminars to exchange training and standards information to enhance national training and resource exchange efforts.

Qualifications

• Recognized degree or diploma in Education or Business Administration, or 4 years of demonstrated, recent experience in developing, delivering, and/or coordinating wildland fire management or resiliency courses.
• Experience in coordinating training development and managing partner engagements.
• Knowledge of learning management systems and online learning tools.
• Comprehensive understanding of FireSmart disciplines and principles, emergency management, wildland fire operations, and/or community resiliency planning is considered an asset.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel) and skilled in coordinating technical and administrative project support.
• Able to take initiative and work effectively under limited supervision.
• A valid driver's license with the ability to operate a vehicle for work-related travel is required.
