Missing Person Liaison Officer

Job Description

Duties:



Provides direct services and support to families of missing persons, including emotional support, information and referrals to other agencies and community resources. Assists police investigators in providing a coordinated response for families of missing persons. Identifies service gaps and emerging issues related to supporting the families of missing persons. Works closely with the Unit's Indigenous Resource Officer(s) in order to provide culturally appropriate services and support to Indigenous families. Delivers and facilitates workshops on the topics of missing persons, promising practices and available services. Identifies and develops partnerships with key service delivery agencies that provide outreach services to the families of missing persons. Works on general victim services files, as caseload demand allows, by providing services to other clients including victims of reported crime, victims of unreported crime, and at-risk individuals. Assists other police services in developing consistent and appropriate practices, procedures and training materials regarding the services and support provided to families of missing persons in Saskatchewan. Provides training, advice, and guidance to other victim services programs in Saskatchewan regarding best practices for supporting families of missing persons. Works with community agencies involved with missing Indigenous women cases to provide outreach services to affected families. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:



Graduation from a recognized two-year, post-secondary program in social sciences or related field. Three years' experience in the social services field addressing related issues. Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence. Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record. Considerable knowledge of Indigenous culture. Knowledge of community resource agencies. Knowledge of the criminal justice system. Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset. Ability to pass the Saskatoon Police Service security clearance process. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Hours of Work:



Shift work and weekend work may be involved.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 15 months

Pay: $65,191.44-$71,873.04 per year
