Fredericton The Department of Natural Resources and Energy Development is seeking an individual to join the Resource Development Branch as the Mining Recorder, in Fredericton. As a member of the Resource Tenure team and reporting to the Section Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: providing support and advice to prospectors and land owners regarding legislation and requirements of mineral claim registration and exploration; reviewing Notices of Planned Work and subsequent issuance of Work Authorizations; completing assessments of Reports of Work for technical content and consistency with Notices of Planned Work; ensuring that exploration activities comply with conditions; ensuring that Mining Lease holders are compliant with reporting and administrative requirements; participating as a member of a technical review committee for other department and government initiatives; establishing and maintaining positive relationships with clients and stakeholders; and providing advice to management. Other related duties may be assigned as required. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science in Geology and a minimum of five (5) years of mineral exploration experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with the New Brunswick Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists, is required. Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application. ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate one or more of the following: a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in mineral exploration or mining; experience working with legislation related to mineral exploration; experience in project management. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration. OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The primary duties of this position are conducted in an office setting; however, the successful applicant must be prepared to occasionally conduct site visits. The successful applicant must maintain membership in the New Brunswick Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists. They must also possess a valid Class 5 driver licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent. SALARY: $61,828 to $86,372 per annum NOTE: In the event that this competition poses difficulties in recruiting a qualified candidate, a covering off appointment at a lower level may be made. In that case, candidates with less than the required related years of experience may also be considered.
