Our Team:

The Mine Technical Services team is integral to employee safety and the creation and execution of sound mining plans. Members of this teamwork across a variety of engineering functions including: planning, ground control, surveying, ventilation, scheduling, infrastructure and capital coordination.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Mining Engineer to join our Mines Technical Services team at our Coleman Mine in Sudbury. This is a permanent position.

Reporting directly to the Divisional Supervisor, the Mining Engineer will complete work within the 0 to 24 month planning window. This may include providing short and mid-range plans and designs to support the mining team and the 24 month rolling schedule, as well as the annual life of mine plan submission.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Provide technical services as required/requested by the MTS team to support Coleman Mine.
  • Able to perform more complex professional or technical work at an advanced level in areas such as preparation of mining proposals, mine development, drilling, blast design, backfill, and cost evaluations.
  • Provide 20 scale development layouts, as required.
  • Provide mid-range block plans, as required.
  • Complete Management of Change (MOC) as required for changes to mine design.
  • Update and maintain prints and digital drawings to reflect current mining activity status.
  • Participate and provide material for both planned and unplanned production and safety meetings.
  • Provide technical support for site safety and/or efficiency initiatives.
  • Effectively interact with colleagues and operations personnel at the site to optimize communication and efficiency.
  • Perform site visits underground as required.
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or equivalent in Mining Engineering.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 4 to 8 years of related experience, P. Eng. is preferred.
  • Mining Engineer-in-Training (EIT) applications are also welcome
Skills:
  • Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.
  • Knowledge of engineering planning software (Deswik) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
  • Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
