Within the Branch, the Mineral Management Division includes, amongst others, a team of mining engineers largely responsible for administration and oversight of the Province's Mineral Resources Act, and for monitoring mining activities in Nova Scotia.For more information visit:About Our OpportunityAs a Mining Engineer you will report to the Manager, Mineral Development and Policy and provide expertise in mineral resource management, mineral development, and mine reclamation in the Province of Nova Scotia. In this role, you will participate in the administration of the Mineral Resources Act and Regulations. You will build and maintain relationships within the Geoscience and Mines Branch, the Department of Natural Resources, other government departments, mining companies, consultants, Federal and Municipal levels of government and industry associations.Primary AccountabilitiesYou will participate in the review of reclamation plans, as well as review and/or prepare reclamation cost estimates and make recommendations on the valuation of reclamation securities. You will also carry out site visits to inspect reclamation work that has been completed.The position will require the review of the following: annual reports submitted by mineral lease and non-mineral registration holders in the province, Environmental Assessment Registration Documents, and applications for mineral rights within in the province.As well, you will participate in the development of Mineral Policy by maintaining familiarity with relevant economic, technical, environmental, and social trends that relate to mineral development.In this position, you will be required to carry out visits and report on operating and abandoned mine sites in the province.Other duties may be assigned as required.Qualifications and ExperienceAs the successful candidate you will have a bachelor's degree in engineering in a discipline related to mineral resource management with six years of related experience and be registered with Engineers Nova Scotia as Licensed to Practice (or with an Engineering Association in another Canadian jurisdiction with the ability to transfer their registration to Nova Scotia).An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the technical training and experience stated above.Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, leadership, project management and sound judgment skills are essential.
