Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent and working a 14 days in/14 days out rotation, this is a key role to provide direct technical input into driving operational decisions at Gahcho Kue. Key Responsibilities:
  • Optimize the open pit mine planning and mine designs to improve ore extraction and balance waste stripping ratio with long-term mine planning requirements;
  • Responsible for collating and making sense of field data to support inputs required for operational mine planning and scheduling;
  • Responsible for the development of short-range mine planning & scheduling operational packages;
  • Actively support development and implementation of projects across areas of the mining engineering function;
  • Assist with the optimization of the short-range scheduling and design, through application of sound engineering design scheduling methods;
  • Proactively support mine engineering to solve problems through development of mine plans and schedules;
  • Conduct project planning, producing project schedules, analyzing project progress and reporting on the project planning indicators;
  • Data analysis and trade-off studies to improve short & mid-term dewatering planning;
  • Actively reconcile demonstrated performance data with the mine plan(s) to identify and recommend improvement opportunities where applicable;
  • Assist production staff in the completion of projects where necessary according to agreed plans;
  • Actively contribute to the design and implementation of dewatering execution plans; and
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture within the Mine Engineering department through leadership and coordination of projects and activities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Mine Engineering or equivalent;
  • Three plus (3+) years\' experience in open pit mine planning and drill and blast planning;
  • Eligible for Professional Engineering registration in the Northwest Territories;
  • Strong focus on systems and processes improvement;
  • Strong background in open pit optimization and data driven analysis;
  • Strong safety record and ability to implement established safety systems;
  • Ability to drive accountability and achieve results;
  • Ability to communicate, share information and seek input from different teams;
  • Planning, time management, and problem-solving skills; and
  • Experience producing, developing and presenting reports.
Beneficial if you have:
  • Advanced skills with Deswik mine planning/scheduling or other software;
  • Experience in Geotech and/or dewatering planning; and
  • Ability to manage and lead a team to be a high performing team.
