PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of the position of Millwright is to maintain, repair and improve mechanical components on existing equipment as well as install mechanical and safety components on new equipment.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance that requires a millwright as outlined in the Preventative Maintenance Program and preventative maintenance checklist. The position is responsible for any maintenance building repairs and building of mechanical components for devices designed and built in-house. In the case of large, time consuming projects or special knowledge projects, contract services are utilized. External contacts include suppliers for replacement parts. The incumbent may be involved with the training of apprentices.
The incumbent is responsible for his or her own work and may be responsible for the work of others when training an apprentice. Decisions made by the position impact the department in the short term.
He/she must provide their own personal hand tools, all large items or special items will be provided by the employer.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma. Ontario Certificate of Qualification.
Knowledge and Skills:
Basic knowledge acquired during a normal maintenance mechanic apprenticeship. Strong knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems. A good knowledge of electrical and an excellent knowledge of mechanical systems are required. The position must have a good understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLCs). The incumbent requires an ability to work independently and think of creative ways to approach problems. The position must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
Communication Skills
: Strong oral and written communication skills are required for normal technical/business communication.
Nature and Length of Experience
: At least 2-3 years of experience in a similar work environment performing mechanical and electrical maintenance and trouble shooting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshooting production problems that may have a mechanical or electrical problem as required or as requested by Team Leads, die maintenance personnel, Supervisors or Managers.
Maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical systems within the building and on equipment as requested by the Supervisors or Managers or by issued work orders.
Devises innovative ways of improving existing machinery.
Sources replacement parts through suppliers as required.
Directs less responsible apprentices. Checks the work of others to ensure the quality of their work. Directs the work of press operators in order to learn about and trouble shoots any problems.
Proper use of electronic data collection equipment.
Performs all duties within the 5S standards.
Follows and performs to the instructions as outlined in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department.
Follows and performs to the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department.
Compliance to all company HR policies and procedures.
Responsible for working safely, complying with safety policies and procedures, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) required in the designated areas as per company policy.
Responsible for working safely and keeping a safe work area for themselves and fellow employees. Reporting any unsafe working conditions, practices, and work-related injuries immediately to his/her Supervisor or Manager.
Any other job-related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor and Manager.
This position works the weekend night shift (Friday-Sunday 7:00pm-7:00am).
