We are currently seeking an Interior Designer / Estimator to join our Brampton-based millwork division.

Job Purpose



As an Interior Designer / Estimator at Keypoint Millwork, you will be responsible for creating detailed, client-focused millwork designs and preparing accurate project cost estimates. This dual role requires a strong sense of design, deep knowledge of materials and finishes, and a practical understanding of budgeting and production requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities



Create detailed design drawings, including floor plans, elevations, and 2D, and 3D renderings, to communicate design ideas effectively using various software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, and Cabinet Vision. Develop innovative and visually appealing interior design concepts for millwork products, ensuring they align with the overall project aesthetic. Select appropriate materials, finishes, and hardware that enhance the visual appeal and functionality of the millwork products. Collaborate with clients, architects, and project managers to understand project requirements, design intent, and functional needs. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to obtain accurate materials, finishes, and hardware pricing. Review project budgets and ensure cost estimates align with the budgetary constraints set by the client. Assist in value engineering efforts, proposing cost-effective alternatives without compromising design quality. Calculate material quantities, considering waste, yield rates, and desired finishes. Prepare detailed shop drawings using AutoCAD, Sketchup, Cabinet Vision. Prepare detailed cost estimates, considering material costs, labour requirements, and any subcontracted services. Ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and accessibility standards in the design process. Create detailed shop drawings with accurate and clearly labelled measurements, guides, materials, finishes, and specifications. Collaborate and coordinate with the millwork production team to ensure design feasibility, provide necessary clarifications during the manufacturing process, and relay design changes, modifications, or special considerations that may arise during the project. Stay updated with industry trends, emerging materials, finishes, and manufacturing techniques relevant to millwork and interior design.

Working Conditions



Ability to work in an office in a fast-paced environment with variable working hours. Travel may be required depending on the millwork company's scope of operations and client locations. Designers and estimators may need to visit project sites to assess spaces, gather measurements, coordinate with stakeholders, or provide on-site guidance during installation. Qualifications and Skills Required



Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field is typically preferred. Relevant certifications or professional designations may also be advantageous. Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design drawings, cost calculations, and project coordination. Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in interior design and millwork estimation is highly desirable, particularly in a fast-paced millwork or woodworking environment. Familiarity with millwork production processes, materials, finishes, and construction techniques is beneficial. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Cabinet Vision, Adobe Creative Master Suite Collections, and Planswift. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheet software such as Excel or estimating software to create accurate and detailed cost estimates. Strong understanding of interior design principles, space planning, and knowledge of architectural styles and trends. Understanding of construction methods, millwork manufacturing processes, and assembly techniques. Familiarity with millwork materials, finishes, hardware, and their associated costs. Experience in analyzing project specifications, architectural drawings, and related documentation to determine material quantities and cost requirements. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, architects, project managers, and team members. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced millwork environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines. Effective time management skills to balance design and estimation tasks, project coordination, and meet project milestones.
