Montessori, project-based
middle school environment that values experiential hands-on learning, student agency, and real-world skills.
This teacher will work in collaboration with other Skyridge Staff and Teachers to develop the program, plan, and teach all aspects of the middle school curriculum within the framework of a Montessori Adolescent program. While Montessori training is preferred, the ideal candidate will be able to support a student-centered, project-based, innovative program and possess a flexible mindset and passionate approach to learning.
Adults and students in our program function as a community of learners in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. The program provides a consistent, yet flexible, structure; high expectations for work and conduct; a system of accountability; opportunities for student-led learning; and a focus on ethical thinking and problem-solving.
At its core, the collective elements of the program are a means to build community, discover passion, deepen curiosity, and provide experiences for each adolescent to engage deeply and meaningfully in the love of learning and self-discovery.
Both
full-time and part-time positions

Responsibilities:
Collaborate with a team of educators to support holistic student growth
Foster a respectful, inclusive, and active classroom environment
Guide students through long-term projects, including a student run-business, health & wellness initiatives, and real-world problem-solving
Communicate regularly with the Adolescent teaching team and student families to support the needs of the middle school program.
Communicate with and form partnerships with local organizations to enrich curriculum and student experience.
Create, manage, and evaluate authentic experiential projects, assessments, and experiences for adolescents.
Contribute to the scope and sequence of the overall curriculum.

Understanding of social-emotional needs of adolescents
Desire to work with a team of teachers
Clear and honest communication
Commitment to student-centered education
Understanding of record-keeping and formative feedback as data to make decisions.
Experience with or desire to explore working with students on authentic community projects (such as running a small business, going outs, and service initiatives ).
Education & Experience
Valid BC Teaching Certificate or ability to obtain
Experience teaching Middle and/or Secondary School
Montessori Teacher Training (AMI or MACTE accredited) is an asset; a minimum of AMI Orientation 12-18 Adolescent Workshop or willingness to obtain.
Strong skills, experience, or confidence in at least 3 of the following: ELA, Outdoor Education, Social Studies, Science, Physical Health Education, Entrepreneurship/Design Thinking, ADST, Career Planning, Music, Second Language.
