What to expect




We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Microbiologist to join our team.


This role is critical in ensuring food safety, quality compliance, and continuous improvement across our operations. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in microbiology, risk assessment, and laboratory safety, combined with excellent organizational and communication skills. Additionally, they will assist during absences and vacations.


This is a role that will require flexibility. Because it is a 24/7 operation, other shifts or schedules may be required.

A day in the life of a (Microbiologist)



Manage sampling plans for pathogen monitoring programs. Complete risk assessments and support investigations as needed. Perform and coordinate microbiological analysis of raw materials, environmental swabs, line samples, investigative samples, and finished products. Evaluate microbiological results to ensure specifications are met before product release. Certify product quality by adhering to all requirements and schedules in micro ICP and proficiency testing. Serve as Laboratory Safety & Health Champion and member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee. Act as biosafety advisor, providing guidance on biosafety and biosecurity to management and personnel. Coordinate closed-loop and potable water testing according to schedule. Review city water annually. Support hygienist with annual cleaning validations and verifications. Provide additional support as required. Log, trend, and interpret all data; report deviations promptly. Organize and manage QA-micro supplies and equipment. Work with vendors to procure lab equipment, services, and supplies. Maintain and update procedures, training records, and documentation in compliance with Nestle standards. Ensure adherence to Nestle Quality Management System (NQMS), ISO 9001:2015, FSSC 22000:2018, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 requirements. Create and manage department POs. Support production with food safety and quality issues. Inform management of quality deviations and participate in corrective actions. Manage assigned projects, including 5S initiatives. Coordinate sample shipping and perform backup duties as needed. Promote continuous improvement of quality systems and products. Actively participate as a member of the Food Safety Team

Role Requirements




Degree in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field.

1-3 years' experience in food manufacturing or processing Strong knowledge of food safety standards and microbiological testing methods. Experience with ISO and FSSC standards. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment an asset Strong PowerPoint, Word and Excel skills. Capable of developing and delivering training to both technical and non-technical personnel Flexibility to work various shifts including travel when required
