Job Description


Scope of Position

The Metocean Engineer will provide expertise and knowledge relative to evaluating and describing the local site conditions for fixed and floating offshore wind projects of both Atlantic Shores JV and EDF Renewables. The metocean engineer is a key resource in the team to provide reliable metocean inputs (wind, waves, current, \xe2\x80\xa6), technical support, and coordination with all other technical workstreams and external consultants. The metocean engineer acts as a reference on the definition of the offshore site conditions and the metocean inputs will become the basis for the offshore engineering of the projects. The Metocean Engineer will report to the metocean manager within the Offshore Technology and Delivery team.

Responsibilities

Preliminary site conditions

  • Collect available metocean data for the areas (regional models and measurements), either publicly available or from third parties
  • Validate the data and identify the most accurate datasets for the projects
  • Perform metocean statistical analyses for both operational and extreme conditions
  • Write metocean site assessment reports and prepare reliable metocean time-series
Detailed site conditions for detailed engineering purposes
  • Lead the technical preparation of requests for proposals (RFP) in collaboration with the procurement team to obtain third-party detailed metocean data and studies for specific project areas, as well as other supporting analyses (scouring, sedimentation, etc.)
  • Track and follow-up on work advancement from third parties, both on technical and contractual aspects
  • Review and challenge the deliverables, ensure consistency with internal hypotheses and with offshore wind standard recommendations
  • Write the metocean site assessment reports for the projects
Certification of the offshore site conditions by the Certified Verification Agent (CVA)
  • Follow-up the reviews and comments of the site conditions by the CVA to get the site conditions certified
  • Support the certification of the employer\xe2\x80\x99s and contractors\xe2\x80\x99 design bases by the CVA
Metocean measurement campaigns
  • Support the measurement campaign strategy from prospection to construction stages
  • Lead the technical preparation of RFP in collaboration with the procurement team
  • Support the deployment and maintenance activities of the measurement devices
Weather forecasts for marine operations
  • Support the weather forecast strategy to be used during construction and O&M activities
  • Lead the technical preparation of RFP in collaboration with the procurement team
  • Follow-up of the deliverables from third parties, both on technical and contractual aspects
Coordination with internal technical teams
  • Plan and lead regular updates with other internal technical teams on the progress of obtaining new site conditions, and align tasks and deliverables with the project\xe2\x80\x99s and other team\xe2\x80\x99s schedules (Foundations, Turbines, Electrical, Installation, O&M, \xe2\x80\xa6)
  • Ensure adequate communication of the metocean inputs to be used
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and other partners
  • In the framework future opportunities (future bids, lease auctions, \xe2\x80\xa6), proactively support and contribute to the project team planning
EDF Renewables internal metocean expertise
  • Improve internal tools and methodologies in cross-collaboration with the other engineering teams
  • Identify gaps of knowledge, lead and support relevant R&D projects
Other duties as assigned

No direct reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in engineering with a major in ocean engineering, offshore energy, renewable energy or related field. A Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree is highly preferred
  • Competent in meteorology, oceanography, climatology, mathematics, and programming (R, Python, Matlab, or equivalent). Strong experience in statistics and data analysis
  • 3 to 5 years experience in the offshore project environment. Experience in offshore wind project development highly valued.
  • Experience with offshore wind design standards
  • Experience in the preparation and deployment of measurement campaigns
  • Ideally, specific experience and interest in climate change and hurricane phenomenon topics
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Outstanding interpersonal oral and written communication and presentation skills required
  • Fluent in English, French is a plus
  • Highly motivated, curious and proactive
  • Ability to work well with others and be a good team player
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context and a fast-paced JV environment
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of organizational skills
Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel monthly to an EDF Renewables office for 3-5 days

Working Conditions:

90% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequently using various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Approximately 10% of the time is spent on site overseeing measurement campaigns work, meeting with contractors, in offsite workshops, visiting other Atlantic Shores or EDF Renewables offices, or training.
