About the role - Y Mind
This is a new, exciting and innovative program designed to support the mental health and wellness of youth - Based on a YMCA curriculum, which was developed by the YMCA of Vancouver, this program provides early intervention and prevention to youth who experience mild to moderate anxiety, through the facilitation of a psychoeducational group. The program teaches Mindfulness and Acceptance techniques and is based on Commitment Therapy.
Training in the delivery of this YMCA curriculum will be provided to the successful applicants.
Scope
The Mental Wellness Facilitator will work collaboratively with other staff and participants. The facilitator will be responsible for screening to identify eligible applicants and manage the intake of these group participants, as well as for delivering program sessions online/in-person, virtually meeting with the participants following program completion, and providing appropriate community referrals for program participants if needed.
Work Schedule
Six-month maternity leave contract (December 1, 2025 - May 29, 2026)
Part-time position (20 hours per week) with a flexible, hybrid schedule -- combining on-site work at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA (410 Rebecca Street, Oakville) and remote work

Responsibilities
Facilitate online intake process of program applicants, scheduling, and administration
Co-facilitate group sessions online and create a warm, welcoming, and safe group environment
Maintain a strengths-based approach that inspires participants to engage in self-development & change
Virtually meet with the participants following program completion
Support applicants and participants to contact appropriate referrals to community agencies when necessary
Maintain data for evaluation of program
Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and volunteers by following YMCA standards/ policies/ procedures
Communicate regularly with the YMCA Hub including and completing a post-program report
Requirements
Higher level education in mental health or counselling related field (such as a master's in counselling or social work) or equivalent combination of experience and education required (i.e., Bachelor of Social Work and 3 years' experience in the field)
Experience working with youth (13-30 years of age) experiencing mild-to-moderate anxiety and mood problems
Experience facilitating mental wellness/psycho-educational groups
Minimum of 2 years' experience conducting intakes and assessments
Ability to recognize mental health signs and symptoms beyond the mild-to-moderate spectrum and to provide referrals to appropriate medical and community agencies
Excellent administrative skills
