Mental Health and Wellness Lead

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




• Input into program, policy, and procedure development.
• Professional development training for school staff as needed.
• Oversight School-Based Mental Health and Wellness projects.
• Attend appropriate meetings which may include Regional-based Support Team Meetings, group supervision, staff meetings, networking with external stakeholders and Indigenous governments, and training.
• Build relationships and collaborative partnerships with relevant community-based and government organizations.
• Engage in professional development (PD) activities to ensure ongoing learning and development.
• Adhere to all industry appropriate best-practice regulatory, mandatory and ethical guidelines to ensure professional conduct at all times.
• Be an active part of YK1's District Educational Services Team in terms of its responsibility for inputting to the development and implementation of the strategic plan, vision and mandate.


The Team Lead will be required to do a limited amount of individual counselling, using a variety of therapeutic modalities. Clinical supervision will be provided for these instances.




Qualifications:


The ideal candidate should have:


• Must have credentials to be able to obtain counselling accreditation.
• Excellent clinical and writing skills.
• A minimum of two years supervision experience required.
• Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to work with interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships.
• Ability to work independently and to work as a member of a team.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of inclusive schooling, health education, and health literacy, particularly in multiple settings or with various populations.
• Excellent communication and computer skills.






Competencies and Knowledge:


The successful candidates should possess and/or have an understanding of the following:


• Experience in group facilitation and mentorship
• Crisis response and debriefing
• Trauma Informed Practice
• Student-centered approach
• Ability to discuss mental health topics, knowledge and application in prevention, run group supports, work with a children to build skills around coping strategies
• Anti-Racism/Cultural Awareness/Safety
• Expertise in child and youth mental health
• Knowledge of child development
• Understanding of educational history, context, and inclusive schooling in the NWT
• Ability to co/self-regulate, respond vs. react, and reflect on situations
• Strong coordination, facilitation and interpersonal skills demonstrated in a variety of diverse cultural contexts, including working with Elders and community cultural resource people
• Ability to manage time and tasks efficiently and effectively.
