The Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordinator plays an integral role within Student Supports by enhancing the learner experience in all areas of wellbeing to support student resilience & retention.
The Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordinator is responsible for building capacity in mental health and wellbeing through, developing, promoting, coordinating, and delivering a variety of programming across RDP campus. This role involves collaborating with internal and external partners to enhance campus resources, education, and opportunities and provides targeted training based on needs. The incumbent coordinates and executes a robust calendar of initiatives, trainings, and events by supervising a team that includes the Student Wellbeing Engagement Assistant, student volunteers, and students engaged in work-integrated learning activities.
The incumbent also manages data, spending, and reporting, and ensures alignment with the Student Mental Health Strategy and the requirements of the Alberta Health Services Community Helpers Program, a suicide prevention and capacity building curriculum. The program as a module-based training or customized to meet requested needs.
Position Responsibilities
Development of Mental Health & Wellbeing Programming
Build and manage a robust calendar of campus wide events based on the evaluation of student needs and correspondence with national awareness initiatives that support preventative actions in student mental health and wellbeing
Develop an annual plan for social media campaigns, promotions, and resource sharing for mental health and wellbeing to ensure broad visibility and engagement. Use creative and engaging strategies to reach diverse student populations.
Support the development and maintenance of peer support programs that empower students to lead mental health advocacy efforts and provide peer support and education. (Campus Wellbeing Advocate Program, MindfulU, Recovery on Campus)
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong partnerships with the campus community and student organizations to integrate mental health & wellbeing education and initiatives into various aspects of campus life, ensuring a holistic, campus-wide approach to student wellbeing
Collaborate within multidisciplinary support teams (MDST) to lead the identification of mental health and wellbeing education and initiatives that will support students. Lead assigned MDSTs.
Training & Education
Deliver evidence-based education programs and opportunities to the campus community on suicide prevention, mental health and wellbeing, and advise students of appropriate resources to meet their needs.
Lead awareness campaigns and initiatives that help reduce stigma and promote increased education and positive practices among the student body.
Design and deliver training for peer supporters, student volunteers, and other groups of student leaders.
Facilitate core modules of the AHS Community Helpers Program, building capacity for suicide prevention.
Continuously assess the effectiveness of programming and make recommendations for adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.

Required Qualifications
Four (4) year undergraduate degree, or three (3) year undergraduate degree plus one full additional year of University in a related program representing four years of study or equivalent. Relevant programs include Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Health Sciences or related human services degree.
3-5 years of previous job-related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience recruiting, training, managing, and coordinating students
Ability to promote mental health and wellbeing programs, projects, and/or initiatives
Experience in public speaking and facilitation of a pre-existing curriculum
Demonstrated aptitude with computer software and programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and content management systems
Knowledge of best practices for social media tools and web applications
Creative ability and strength is creating marketing materials and posts, utilizing software such as Canva and Power Point.
Excellent interpersonal and online communication skills
Strong self-motivation and initiative
Ability to work in a changing, progressive, team orientated environment
Experience networking and collaborating with internal and external partners
Previous event planning experience may be considered an asset
Mental Health First Aid Instructor License or other facilitator certifications in mental health and wellbeing areas would be an asset
