POSITION OVERVIEW
Whitecap Dakota Nation (WDN) is seeking a talented and motivated Mental Health Therapist to join our dynamic team. While reporting to the Clinical Integration Manager, the ideal candidate will combine exceptional counseling skills with a strong commitment to professionalism and confidentiality. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide meaningful support to individuals, groups, and families by diagnosing and treating mental health disorders. You will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to create a professional yet empathetic atmosphere, helping clients and community members feel at ease during consultations, while contributing to the overall well-being of the WDN.
KEY DUTIES
The following duties are a summary of the primary responsibilities. The incumbent may not perform all listed duties and may be assigned additional tasks as needed in accordance with the standards of the WDN the employee will:
participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of holistic mental health and therapy services for WDN and will provide counseling services and deliver programs.
work as an integrated team member with the Whitecap Health Centre, Saskatoon Health Region, Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC), contracted therapists, Charles Redhawk Elementary School, Justice, Elders, WDN Council, youth, and recreation services,
work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary health team;
work as an integrated team member with other service providers in and outside the WDN;
maintain confidentiality and ethical practice;
adhere to policies & procedures relating to electronic medical records (EMR);
develop and facilitate workshops and programming on topics related to mental health; and
model and teach effective communication skills; counsel individuals, families, and couples.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 5-7 years working with Indigenous people as a Mental Health Therapist;
Possess a BSW, M.Sc., MSW or a combination of related education and experience; registered with a recognized Canadian licensing body that aligns with your education and experience;
Extensive knowledge of various mental health disorders, their etiology, and optimal plans for treatment and intervention;
Highly developed clinical skills and expertise in a variety of treatment approaches, and modalities including but not limited to group work and brief psychotherapy;
High degree of comfort in dealing with suicide ideation, violence and abuse, intergenerational trauma, substance abuse and crisis intervention;
Ability to articulate family structures and a strong understanding of the effects of residential school and foster-care histories;
Ability to work with a variety of individuals presenting with complex issues, including co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders;
Ability to work both independently as well as within a team context;
Excellent written and oral skills;
Working knowledge of PC software applications is an asset;
Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license and a reliable vehicle;
Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and safe work practices, including the successful completion of required Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training; and,
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Clinical Integration Manager.
