About the Role



Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Mental Health Therapist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, school administrators, community service providers and caregivers to provide timely, wrap-around clinical service delivery in the Comprehensive School-Based Mental Health Program in partnership with First Nation and Metis schools.



The Mental Health Therapist will:

Conduct comprehensive bio-psycho-social-spiritual mental health assessments of assigned preschoolers, children and adolescents. Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-V and/or other diagnostic tools. Work closely with Elders and Knowledge Keepers from the communities we serve. Facilitate psychoeducational group sessions on general mental health topics for school staff, caregivers and community service providers. Adhere to the policies and procedures of First Nation and Metis school division partners. Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, professionals, caregivers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers to develop holistic patient care plans and support successful transitions. Participate in school and community events, including traditional ceremonies and cultural events. Provide coverage for the Kipohtakaw Education Centre Mental Health Therapist.


Qualifications

Master's degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy, or a bachelor's degree in social work or a related discipline such as psychology or social sciences, with a minimum of three years of related experience in an educational or mental health setting. Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). A minimum of two years clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions. Access to cultural and spiritual knowledge and training is provided. Valid Class 5 driver's license and access to a vehicle.


Conditions of Employment

A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate. Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
