Program Overview





Edmonton North Primary Care Network (The PCN)'s service model is principled on Primary Care Behavioural Health. A Behavioral Health Consultant (BHC) sees patients prior to referring them to a Mental Health Therapist (MHT). The BHC will help the patient develop behavioural strategies to assist with concerns. Patients requiring more intensive treatment are then referred to a Mental Health Therapist. Common concerns include trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment disorder and interpersonal conflict.

Position



The Mental Health Therapist functions as a secondary referral in a stepped care approach to facilitate the identification and delivery of appropriate treatment for mental health needs. Position works in collaboration with other professionals within an interdisciplinary team to provide services to referred clients of the Edmonton North Primary Care Network upon the identification of complex mental health needs.

Position's key responsibilities include:Working to full scope of practice to provide mental health assessments and individual psychotherapy using a broad range of evidence-based treatment modalities Making autonomous decisions in coordinating care and determining an appropriate evidence-based treatment plan for referred clients Develop, support, and maintain a good understanding of the Primary Care Behavioural Health model and work in collaboration with BHC's to ensure the mental health needs of clients are met Coordinating care with and/or linking clients to other healthcare programs, healthcare providers or other relevant community agencies and resources as appropriate Maintaining accurate records with Electronic Medical Record, including the documentation and communication of a client's visits with the client's physician, timely completion and following up with the referring provider on completion of care or in case of client non- attendance Facilitating group classes

Report to





Manager, Clinical Services

Education





Master's degree in psychology, Counselling, or Social Work (clinical specialization) Active professional registration and in good standing with CAP or an accredited Association under Health Professions Act (proof of active registration and practice is required)

Experience



A minimum of three (3) years' experience providing individual and group therapy in a community agency Cultural competence and experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and related language needs Additional training in modalities such as EMDR and EFT would be an asset Working knowledge of the DSM-5, trauma informed care and concurrent disorders Experience working with children, youths, adults, and couples

Strong assessment, and risk assessment skills Strong communication skills, adaptability, and integrity Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities to meet various deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule Ability to work with minimal supervision, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize
