About the Role
CASA\xe2\x80\x99s Trauma Program nurtures connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.The Mental Health Therapist will:

  • Work with the CASA team and external supports to provide high-quality trauma-focused mental health therapies to children, teens and families.
  • Build specialized parenting skills for caregivers caring for children with exceptional needs.
  • Formulate diagnoses as appropriate, using the DSM-5-TR and other diagnostic tools.
  • Conduct case management functions, including convening case conferences and liaising with CASA therapists and psychiatrists, community services and other professionals involved with the child and family.
  • Coordinate consultation to others therapists or external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Provide supervision or preceptorship for student placements.
  • Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
Qualifications
  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy.
  • Current registration in good standing with a professional college identified under the Health Professions Act.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice culturally-safe therapeutic interventions.
  • Knowledge and experience supporting the healing of children and youth who have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following therapeutic modalities: EMDR, ART, sensory motor psychotherapy, somatic experiencing, SMART, DBT/CBT and ARC.
  • Training and experience in play therapy and DBT is considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Conditions of Employment
  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
