Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Area Manager Forensic Assessment & Outpatient Services, The Mental Health Therapist will act as a collaborative member of the treatment team for the Rocky Mountain Program providing in-custody (Calgary Correctional Centre) and community-based (FAOS), recovery-oriented assessment, treatment, psychotherapy, support, group, follow-up and case management to adults experiencing concurrent mental health and addiction disorders. In addition, they will also act as a member of the core clinical Sexual Offender Treatment Team for RMP and/or FAOS. Primary treatment services will be delivered within the context of a provincial correctional environment and in the context of a forensic mental health community clinic. The clinician will provide recovery-oriented services for high-risk high needs offenders. Assessment & Treatment services are provided to individuals convicted of sexual offenses under the criminal code of Canada. The position involves provision of clinical services to individuals and/or families, as well as consultation to the inter-professional team. The role may also include supervision of students in an aligned discipline as required. The MH & Addictions Therapist may also provide input / participate in facilitation of program development, staff development, service planning, quality improvement and evaluation and/or research activities as identified by the Forensic outpatient service area(s). The Addictions and Mental Health Therapist will work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting and also act as a liaison and program ambassador of forensic services. Work will be performed with a high degree of independence within broad guidelines and in accordance with program and professional standards.
Description:
As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Social Work or Psychology, BSc Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing, with advanced practice in the assessment and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural disorders, conditions and addictions. The combination of education and clinical experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered. A minimum of 3 years recent prior work with individuals with mental health and addiction concerns required, community experience preferred. Minimum 3 years working with individuals experiencing mental health concerns inpatient experience welcome. Community experience preferred. 3 years' experience working with individuals with concurrent disorders. Current knowledge (within the past 2 years) of best practice Addictions treatment trends and modalities required. Authorization from the applicable professional college in order to perform restricted psychosocial interventions. Advanced knowledge and specialization in addictions treatment (concurrent disorders) required. Working knowledge of CBT, DBT, Group Psychotherapy, Family therapy or other endorsed forms of therapy expected. Ongoing commitment to developing concurrent capable behavioural and technical competencies is expected. Current NVCI. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Formal training in CBT, DBT, Group Psychotherapy, Family Therapy and /or other endorsed forms of therapy is desirable. Community Mental Health experience preferred. Experience working with an Offender population preferred. Experience working within a correctional environment preferred. Experience with general risk assessment & Sexual Risk assessment tools preferred.
