Position Summary:





The Pediatric Occupational Therapist, specializing in working with children and adolescents (ages 6-18) with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and developmental disabilities. This role focuses on supporting emotion regulation, social skills, peer relationships, and sensory processing needs to help children/youth gain independence and thrive in their daily lives.

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist will use evidence-based interventions to address sensory integration, self-regulation, and functional life skills while collaborating closely with families, educators, and multidisciplinary professionals.


Qualifications:





RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations to identify sensory, motor, emotional, and social skill challenges.

Develop and implement individualized therapy plans tailored to each child's strengths and needs within the scope of practice of an OT.

Use evidence-based approaches to support emotional and sensory regulation.

Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions to build self-regulation, social interaction, and peer relationship skills.

Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and community partners to provide training and strategies for daily living skills and social participation.

Track progress, document treatment outcomes, and adjust therapy plans as needed.

Ability to function as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

High level of judgment, independence and initiative.

Contribute to the organization's mission and goals by being a team member who ensures confidentiality, quality and client-centered health care in the community.

Attendance at scheduled Departmental and Service/Program meetings.

To participate in regularly scheduled supervision and seek out supervision and consultation as needed to provide effective services to assigned children/youth and families.

Participates in staff in-service training and consultation with other staff.



Education and/or Certification:





Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy - Required
Current Certification of Registration issues through the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario - Required
Three years' experience working with children and adolescents with autism and developmental disabilities is required
Knowledge of sensory integration, emotional regulation frameworks, and social skills development strategies an asset
Proficiency in French language is considered an asset
