About the Edge Program
The
Edge on Employment
program, delivered by Community Inc. in partnership with Portal Youth Outreach Association, supports youth aged 18-26 through career self-discovery, mental wellness, and skill-building. Participants engage in one-on-one support and an eleven-week group program designed to build confidence, employment readiness, and resilience. With welcoming spaces, stocked kitchens, and a warm, peer-informed community, Edge provides more than skills--it offers belonging and support.
Role Overview
As the
Mental Health Navigator
, you'll be a vital part of the Edge team, helping participants overcome personal and mental wellness barriers to success. You will provide direct support, co-develop individualized wellness plans, and integrate therapeutic approaches into both individual and group components of the program. Your work will be rooted in trauma-informed practice and a solution-focused approach, ensuring participants feel safe, supported, and empowered to build sustainable coping skills.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct mental health support, crisis intervention, and therapeutic guidance
Co-create and implement individualized mental wellness plans
Support stress management, coping strategies, mediation, and family reconciliation
Build trusting, inclusive relationships and model resilience and healthy coping
Apply trauma-informed practice and solution-focused counseling in all interventions
Collaborate with the Edge team to integrate mental health into programming
Connect participants with community resources and navigate systemic barriers
Qualifications
Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
Direct experience supporting youth at risk, especially ages 18-26, in community-based or outreach programs (asset)
Strong communication, mediation, and crisis management skills
Knowledge of youth services and community resources in Nova Scotia
Cultural competency and a strengths-based, youth-centered approach
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel
Clean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
