JOB PURPOSE:
The Mental Health Day Program Facilitator works within a multi-disciplinary team to provide a structured and supportive day program for community members experiencing mental health challenges. The Facilitator will develop daily programming that incorporates therapeutic activities, cultural teachings, life skills development, and holistic wellness strategies designed to support recovery, community connection, and self-empowerment.
By weaving together western medicine and traditional wellness practices the Facilitator plays a pivotal role in supporting clients to navigate the complex challenges they face, while supporting their emotional well-being, resilience, and personal growth. By facilitating a safe and supportive environment, they empower the client to explore and address their mental health concerns, develop coping strategies, and build healthier relationships. The Facilitator's dedication to promoting mental health awareness in the community contributes to destigmatizing mental illnesses, contributing to a community where people feel valued, understood, and supported on their journey toward mental wellness.
Services and supports will be extended to include family as needed or requested. The Facilitator will also coordinate therapeutic groups and workshops, and foster a safe, welcoming environment where participants feel valued and supported. Collaboration with the mental health team, Elders, and other professionals is central to this role.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Deliver a weekly structured day program, including check-ins, therapeutic group sessions, wellness activities, and cultural programming
Facilitate or coordinate sessions on mental health, addictions, coping skills, emotional regulation, life skills, and self-care
Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to integrate ceremony, land-based teachings, and cultural elements into the program
Ensure participants feel safe, welcomed, and respected at all times
Support individual participants as needed through one-on-one conversations or referrals to other professionals
Plan and organize weekly schedules and group sessions in collaboration with other staff
Work closely with clinical staff to ensure programming aligns with care plans and therapeutic goals
Monitor participation and progress, maintain documentation and daily records
Coordinate with the Program Assistant and other service providers to ensure seamless operations
Promote a strengths-based, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed approach throughout all programming
Maintain confidentiality and uphold client dignity at all times
Attends related education programs and workshops to maintain a high standard of knowledge and respond to client needs.
Maintains accurate program documentation and confidential files as per agency and accreditation standards/requirements.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

Degree or diploma in social work, psychology, therapeutic recreation, addictions, or related human services field
o
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered
o
Minimum 2 years experience facilitating groups or programs, ideally in a mental health or addictions setting
o
Experience working in Indigenous communities and/or with Indigenous clients
o
Training in trauma-informed care, group facilitation, and de-escalation techniques considered an asset
o
Knowledge of traditional healing practices and ability to work in partnership with cultural leaders
o
Experience working within the perimeters of the Alberta Mental Health Act
Additional experience or training in threat/risk assessment and/or trauma response, as well as training in brief intervention approaches
Current practicing registration with the appropriate professional governing body in Alberta.
Valid Alberta Driver's License
Satisfactory Criminal Records Check & vulnerable sector check
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work full-time: 40 hours per week. 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday to Friday, Will be required to work some evenings and weekends when required. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
