FYRST supports youth and adults in Gimli, Arborg, Riverton and Winnipeg Beach through a consent-based, culturally inclusive, and client-centred community mobilization model.
We are seeking a dynamic and flexible, culturally competent individual to join our team as our Mental Health Counsellor (with an Indigenous lens). This position will work individually to support existing clients who require mental health supports in collaboration with F.Y.R.S.T. Coordinators. This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) daytime position. This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) daytime position paying $33.85/hr.
We are seeking candidates with:
Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in clinical assessment and treatment modalities and working with youth & adults, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care;
Knowledge of mental health problems and illnesses, including signs, symptoms, treatment and prognosis of mental illness and emotional distress;
Knowledge of and experience with cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectal behaviour therapy and motivational interviewing;
Experience providing supportive counselling, conducting interviews, performing assessments and creating treatment plans;
Knowledge of co-occurring disorders;
Knowledge of psychopharmacology;
Knowledge of relevant Acts and legislation pertaining to mental health, familiarity with the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action;
Knowledge of Indigenous historical and current experience and cultures;
Experience working with diverse populations;
Experience facilitating cultural connections and groups.
Qualifications:
B Sc. M.H., B.Sc. P.N., RPN, BN, RN, BSW or MOT; combination of Indigenous Studies education and (lived) experience;
Registered/licensed with applicable professional designation (including liability insurance);
ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training);
Minimum of two (2) years experience in a relevant mental health area required;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
Valid driver's license and a vehicle are required;
Ability to attain a satisfactory criminal record check, child and adult abuse registry check, and enhanced law enforcement security clearance (successful completion is necessary for employment).
Assets:
Training in direct action and experiential therapeutic technique (such as action therapy);
Experience with land-based or ceremonial healing practices, connections to Indigenous communities, resources, and events.
